With the "top rated" beer at Total Wine. She brings home this stuff:

"Not your father's root beer" Does anyone, not a chick, and not an 8 year old at a birthday party, actually like this "beer." I swear, you could make a float with this stuff and nobody would be the wiser.

It's tasty and sweet. Too sweet to drink more than one at a sitting. But the alcohol content is higher than regular beer.

That's the thing. It's like dessert. I drank one, and the other five remain untouched in my fridge. It's quite remarkable that it actually tastes sweeter than root beer. If I were still in high school, this would be my go to for the drink offering to girls in unsupervised settings. Hell of lot easier to get down than Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.

I tried this brand and the Coney Island brand at the Tally Brewfest and liked this one much better than Coney Island. But even though I can't say I liked either despite liking the nonalcoholic root beers. Having said that, check out the Royal Jamaican Ginger Beer (which is also alcoholic), that's fantastic and goes great in a Dark and Stormy with black seal rum.

Almost bought some of this last weekend just because of the name. Anyone tried it?

I tried several at a tasting and it was not my cup of tea. Most of theirs (from memory) are really high alcohol and unsmooth so that you were well aware they were high alcohol. I tried it on our PA, VA, DC, MD, NJ trip about six or so months ago and we went to multiple breweries and wineries in PA. I absolutely loved Victory and Troeg but Weyerbacher was a little syrupy and had a noticeable alcohol burn. If you like the attribute you'll love it. I'll stick to Golden Monkey.

Unless she pays close attention to what you drink/prefer, she's going to go with what's popular. Hard root beers are popular right now. And yes, they are delicious in root beer floats.

That brewery used to make a version of the root beer that was 19.5% abv, not sure if they still produce it. A friend of mine who lives in Chicago got a hold of a few bottles a while back and they tasted really good, much better than the kind sold in stores. The store bought kind are too sweet for my taste.

Nah, consistent with my review, only the empty bottle was used during filming.

The last time I had a root beer was around 10 when I talked my dad into stopping at an A&W while traveling out west. I never was big on the taste and would not want it in my beer.

Before Pabst bought them, they weren't really producing that much. I haven't tried the bottled version, but the 10% drafts don't taste quite the same. It's malt liquor, but at one point, it was better malt liquor.

I know I'm just a "girl" but I love many different kinds of beer my favorite is Weihestephaner Hefeweizen and I'm drinking Victory Golden Monkey at the moment and I LOVE the rootbeer! It's like desert in a bottle. And yes it would great with vanilla ice cream, I want to try that.

Because I'm a girl? I guarantee you anyone who has a serious sweet tooth girl or guy would like this.
I like more than just fruity or flavored beers I have tried quite an array of beer. And I don't drink crap beer.

Nah, because you like beer that tastes like dessert.

Weyerbacher Merry Monks is one of my favorites, and their pumpkin is my favorite out of pumpkin beers.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin is one of the better pumpkin beers out there. I tried one yesterday from Barley Mow called Lord of the Gourd that has moved up near the top of that list. It's basically a pumpkin porter and it was absolutely delicious.

But I like way more than those that taste like desert. Wheats top the list, love a good Amber, session, pilsners and even some porters. The only ones I don't really care for are IPAs just sayin....

Same here regarding the IPAs. I hated that for awhile "craft beer" meant piney, bitter IPAs. I like almost everything other than IPAs from Belgians, sours, farmhouse/wild yeast, various fruit infused beers, smoke/rauchbiers, porters, reds/oatmeal, whites/wheat and more. My go to beer that I have stocked at all time is Victory Golden Monkey, but I go for almost everything other than IPAs and pilsners.

I had the 10% version of this beer on draft at Hopsmith Tavern on Division Street on my last trip to Chicago. I liked it better than the 6% version in the bottle, that extra 4% alcohol takes the edge off the sweetness. Supposedly the 20% version of the beer can be found on draft in the Chicago area too. I'll look for it on my next run.

It's a different purpose for me than beer. I actually enjoy 1-2 at the right time but that's all i can do with the sweet.

That said, a couple while floating in the pool after mowing is really nice.

I tried one of these at a beer fest and enjoyed it. But, I bought some at a store and found it undrinkable. It is too sweet.
