I prefaced the question with what a great QB coach he is, and complimented his three first round picks in a row at QB. I also said there is a lot of talk that QB's from other schools have said they will transfer somewhere else.

Then, I asked - Of all the QB's that you have coached, have any come in and done well in their first year? The first name he came up with was Josh Booty. Of course he named Jameis. But, Jameis red shirted. He gave other names, but like Jameis all were in their 2nd or 3rd years with before starting.

So, of all the QB's Jimbo could name that he thought went on to play well, only one started in their first year, and that was Josh Booty. Today, I analyzed it some more. Booty did in fact play his first year at LSU. That was after a 5 year baseball career in 1999. He completed 48.6% of his passes for 1,830 yards, 7 TD's and 19 INT's. Even more interesting is that Jimbo didn't actually coach Booty until his sophomore year when Jimbo arrived at LSU in 2000. That year Booty completed 50% of his passes for 2,121 yds, 17 TD's, and 15 INT's. He entered the NFL draft the following year.

No, I don't think Golson or Braxton Miller are any more talented than Josh Booty was. I don't think Jimbo wants to go down that road again either. Jimbo did say, "Of course you would prefer a situation where you are going to a red shirt sophomore or junior." Then rattled off all the FSU QB's in the past that started as juniors, starting with Charlie Ward.
