The FSU Board of Trustees met today on campus, and as usual, athletics director Stan Wilcox delivered his update to the board.

Of interest:

* Wilcox said FSU's proposed athletics budget for the 2017-18 academic year will grow about 2.2 percent ... from about $101 million to just over $103 million. He said they'll fund that through additional revenue from the ACC as part of the new network deal, as well as renegotiation of other contracts that they have with corporate partners.

* The scoreboard in the south end zone of Doak Campbell Stadium will be erected this summer. FSU has new scoreboards coming soon for baseball, softball and other sports as well, but he didn't offer specifics.

* You've probably seen where Jack Nicklaus' group is going to redesign Seminole Golf Course. Nicklaus also has agreed to participate in some of the fundraising events to make it happen. They're not going to begin work until they've raised the necessary $4 million to $6 million needed for the project.

* As we reported last week, Wilcox said he will soon begin meeting with Seminole Boosters and the university to look at a Facilities Prioritization plan for future years. This drew praise from BOT Chair Edward Burr.

* Wilcox showed the Trustees a video compilation from the Showtime "A Season With" series, capped off with celebration after the Orange Bowl win. It received applause from the Trustees and others in attendance.

* Wilcox mentioned that FSU Softball is ranked No. 1 in the country this week. That also drew applause.

* BOT member Mark Hillis asked Wilcox about ACC revenues vs. other conferences, mentioning the recent report that SEC schools are now receiving more than $40 million per year and that the Big Ten could generate even more. He asked what the ACC is doing to "close the gap?" (Last summer it was reported that FSU received about $27 million from the ACC)

Wilcox said the new television network will help. When asked for projections, he said what we have reported before -- that each school will get an additional $3 million per year during the next two years. Then when the cable channel goes live in 2019, there are projections that each school will get an additional $8-$10 million per year in the first year and $10-15 million per year after that.

But he said those are just projections and will depend upon how well the network does.

(NOTE: These are not new numbers above. We've reported these before. Just recapping for anyone who missed before.)

* On academics, Wilcox said the student-athletes' cumulative GPA for the most recent semester rose from 2.9 to 2.96. Their cumulative GPA rose from 2.93 to 2.95. His goal is to have it over 3.0.

He said there were 263 athletes with a GPA above 3.0 -- that was an increase from 248.

* On a university note (not during Stan's presentation), it was mentioned that FSU received more than 42,000 applications for admission this year. That was an increase of more than 5,000 from the year before ... and several thousand more than UF received.
