Just not adding up that all 18 inside the Limo were dead at the scene...I know it hit a parked car around 60 MPH and that was quite an impact..yet the Limo did not look that badly damaged from pictures..did not flip...did not explode..etc...It's hard to fathom many did not just walk away from this with some broken bones and bruises especially when you have far more impactful crashes almost daily where people walk away without a scratch...I'm wondering if it could have been something like CO poisoning where they were all dead before the crash?...will sit back and listen to some LR responses and thoughts/theories

No seat belts. Stopping suddenly when going 60 and no seat belts tends to break necks, backs and cause significant injuries.

Yeah, I assumed it caught fire and they could not get out and perished.

For 18 people to all die on impact and not one surviving the initial hit, or at least one person having a shot at the hospital is very strange.

Read an article on USA Today that they were all originally supposed to be on a party bus, but that it broke down. The limo was the replacement vehicle.

When I saw the pics, I thought the same thing about no one surviving the accident. Very strange that every single one of them was dead at the scene.

I went and found a link. It was a big SUV type limo, that was doing 60 at a T intersection and plowed into some trees/parked vehicle/struck two pedestrians.

The pictures I saw showed the back on fire- but either way 17 passengers bonking heads in the back with no restraints seems like shaking rocks in a can.

Want to share the link? No Google allowed at work:(

It’s interesting, I just saw an article from the New York Times and one of the passengers was texting that the limo was in really poor condition and she specifically said the “motor is making everyone deaf.” That suggests a problem with the exhaust system so I wonder if it was a carbon monoxide issue.

Would explain why the driver apparently did not even tap the brakes.

I guess that explains (restraints) how people survive plane crashes. Ironically, I'm sorry I don't have the video, the go fast lakeboat that hit a wake and heads were slamming against fiberglass, etc and I think they all survived. All eighteen perish in this accident....that just defies the odds....people survive charter bus rollovers, train derailments, etc without restraints. Weird.....

I have a hard time believing that everyone was killed on the spot, without any even making it to the hospital with injuries that ended up being life-ending.

4 sisters? That poor family. Such a sad story. If that's true about the limo not passing inspection, someone will be sued and deservedly so.

The link above said one person survived the initial impact but later died at the hospital.

If the limo hadn't passed inspection or not been inspected, i'm going to guess that they don't have liability insurance or low limits.

You have a hard time believing something that actually happened?

I believe they're all dead, of course. I just suspect that something's odd - perhaps like others have speculated, that they were dead of carbon monoxide poisoning before the crash.
I've seen a few horrific crashes that included multiple fatalities (one in which a family in a compact car was t-boned by a rock truck) but some of them lived long enough to take an ambulance ride to the hospital before dying there.

I saw an interview with one of the guys who pulled them out. He said many were still alive when he found them and died outside the vehicle

Wow. It's all speculation at this point, but if it comes out that the deaths are the direct result of willful negligence, this guy should go to prison for a very long time.
Saw on the local news in NYC that his son, the guy who managed the limo biz, was arrested today for criminally negligent homicide. Father, Shahed, is out of country in Pakistan.

Not sure if the cause of the accident was the same as the reason the vehicle failed inspection, I assume that would be a big factor in the above charge being filed / sticking in court.

Without evidence that father knew son was putting a messed up vehicle into service it would be hard to charge him. However, I can't imagine being outed as an FBI informant will play very well back home in Pakistan. So he may unfortunately have some new problems on his hands.
