Drought, heat, fires, floods, hurricanes, bomb cyclones...it's always something these days. The country just can't catch a break!

Weather patterns have historically been cyclical but your point is certainly valid. Same applies to those who like to claim we're now living in the worst time in history.Has anything really changed, or are we just more aware of things now because of 24-7 news, social media, camera phones, etc.? Not sure. But I know when we had 30 minutes of local news followed by 30 minutes of Walter Cronkite, there wasn’t a ton of time devoted to weather events in faraway places.

Being over burdened with instant information, much of it opinion not fact, is not necessarily a good thing.
Going recluse used to be viewed as a recipe for madness. I am starting to wonder if it could be our path to salvation.
Remember the Ice Age that was arriving in the 1970s?Weather patterns have historically been cyclical but your point is certainly valid. Same applies to those who like to claim we're now living in the worst time in history.

Exhibit A as a main reason to not get your science from such a magazine, because the actual publications from scientists did not reflect this:
What were climate scientists predicting in the 1970s?

Wrong thread soddy. This belong in the Key Lime Pie thread to show that REAL key lime pie is in fact yellow, not green.
It was different world back then. If you wanted to smoke a cigar/cigarette outside, you didn't have to listen to people mutter about whatever. If you were old enough to join the military w/o parental signature, you could also have a beer. If you wanted to cold medicine that worked, you didn't have to visit the pharmacist and sign for it. If you wanted to visit with your friends, you had to leave the house. If you wanted the latest daily news, you had a news cast at 6pm and 11pm, or waited until the afternoon/morning newspaper landed in your lap.So glad my parents survived that scare so I could experience this world!!

Since when do we involve "facts" in a Locker Room discussion?
So, why did we have to change a good thing? It was different world back then. If you wanted to smoke a cigar/cigarette outside, you didn't have to listen to people mutter about whatever. They called it progress. So, why did we have to change a good thing?
Yeah. They got it wrong. They called it progress.
In my family, we have less and less involvement with society at large. This may or may not be a good thing. I mostly like it.Going recluse used to be viewed as a recipe for madness. I am starting to wonder if it could be our path to salvation.
Yeah, if you really look at weather patterns, what is so much worse than earlier years? Just gotta be prepared for bad events, as our parents were. Pay attention, stay stocked up for the possibility of bad events.I totally agree. The more I stay away from the "news" programs, the better my life is. If you study history at all, you realize that the time we are living in now is actually pretty good compared to most times throughout history.
As for the weather, it seems worse because our population is growing, and therefore, we have a lot more people affected by bad weather. Plus, we keep allowing people to build and live in areas where we shouldn't (coastal areas, flood zones, wetland areas, etc.).
In my family, we have less and less involvement with society at large. This may or may not be a good thing. I mostly like it.
Hey, I want to be involved in ways that benefit us all. Too many times it gets twisted into complications that make it a net zero. I am done with situations that become losers. Rather be a home body...I feel the same way these days...
That's not out of the ordinary. We lived in N. Va. for 4 years back in the late 60's and we got a lot of snow.A number of people I work with in the NE area have been told to work remote the next couple of days. THey are expecting 12-18 inches of snow fall in the current storm. Late, but not abnormally late.
