3Times in one day I had my line ran over by different boaters. What is the deal with people driving their boat so close to shore. People are swimming and fishing. You try to wave frantically for them to stop and they just wave. The third time I cussed them out and started packing up my gear and I hear the guy further down the beach cussing and yelling at that same guy. Is it not common sense not to drive your boat so close to shore?

Props can't handle much line without jamming.

Think on the bright side, You mighta got the guy.

Side note, how close was the guy from the beach? 20ft?

I was fishing in a Panga yesterday about 15 ft off the beach and slayed the reds.

Wouldn't have don't that if ppl were there tho.

used to waterski off Point Brittney in St. Pete (second bridge on the bayway to the left). Used to have old guys cast at us off the docs because they hated us there....fishermen can be so cranky.

You were that guy huh? Close to shore so the girls could see how awesome you were. Flicking cigarette butts at the old men fishing. Winking at the moms.

As a kid, I was the guy in the 15 foot Boston Whaler (not mine) who found the smoothest glass in the bay to ski on. The old guys were there on their condo docks, flicking their cigarettes at us and lures with multiple hooks on them. Anyone from this area knows that loop was great for skiing on. As for my boat, I rarely took is close to shore because I hated the repairs when the engine sucked up sand into the intake. They also have swim zones and markers along much of the shoreline on St. Pete Beach, etc.

nice image though.

Which one of you was trying to hit the catamaran yesterday at Siesta Key on the pass side? I had to be near the beach so the big Party boats wouldn't run us down coming in from the sunset.
By the way, whoever it was casts like a girl.
If you're fishing in a pass or channel the boats take precedence.

When I lived in Tampa, I went wade fishing a lot at Fort Desoto. It was usually the jet skis that gave me fits. They would run 20-30 yards from you wide open and there was lots of space they could have taken rather than buzz your area.

Another time I am out in the water with pole, floating bucket, etc. (the point is I look like I know what I am doing including owning a license) and here comes the game and fish guy. Pulls right up on me and asks to look at my stringer... Which was empty as I had released some small stuff earlier. Totally ruins the spot. I have to wade back to shore, then move down the beach and start over.

I was at Anna Maria last week and noticed the boats were all really close to the coast... Unlike previous years. Didn't understand it.

there are 3 reason to be lose to the coast.

#1 glassy water
#2 fish stack up in the troughs
#3 you don't know what you are doing and buzz by ppl who surf fish

Down by the Sandbar? Lots of people like to go up there to eat and drink or run by the house...

75 feet. My family and I were at Alligator point south ofTally

Franklin Co. has an ordinance in place for Personal Watercraft (jet ski) distance to beach. That distance is 500' and/or idle speed. I am not aware of boat distance but there may be one.

I was really remembering the jet skiers from back in the early 90's. Florescent yellow outfit, mullet, wrap around sunglasses, cigarette dangling, ripping up and down the shoreline pissing everyone off.

75 ft. at Alligator Pt. is still 2 ft. of water, unless the guy was parking no reason for him to be in that close.
I used to fish off a friends dock down in Lanark and nothing would pizz me off more than boats coming up and fishing right there.
They have a boat, could fish anywhere in the ocean. I'm stuck on this dock, pick another spot.

there were 200 boats out last week on a Wednesday at 5pm
It's crazy. I've heard the Coast Guard responding to multiple collisions and disabled boats, some of which taking on water. It does provide me a decent amount of entertainment while working though. I do wish all those fools would stop trying to do radio checks on channel 16 though. For those of you that don't know, doing a radio check on 16 is actually illegal. Here in Florida use 27, there is an automated system for radio checks.
