Anyone here use GEICO for auto and/or homeowners? I've been with USAA for 19 years and their rates are ridiculously high. GEICO can beat the auto policy by $756 per year (mirrored coverage).

Thoughts?

I've had Geico for about three years and they've been great. I've been in three separate (minor) accidents where I was not at fault and have not seen my rate increase at all. My wife was even at fault in another minor accident and no rate increase.

That's good to know...not the accidents, just the info. ;)

Thanks!

I've been with Geico for over 20 years and they are incredible. My 19 year old son was just in an accident and they handled everything from start to finish with a professionalism not seen much these days. I would highly recommend you move to Geico.

Longtime customer, both auto and home (through Travelers). Great customer service. Had a car vs pothole claim and another for a cracked windshield. Easy, and quick, to get everything resolved. Had a speeding ticket (on my way to the courthouse to get my marriage license no less), and nothing came of it, rate-wise.

Started with GEICO when I moved to ATL in '74, and have never left them. Outstanding customer service, competitive rates, never had a problem with them in 40 years.

Wow. That's the first I have heard anyone say USAA was high. The few people I know that had it love it and talk about how cheap they are.

I've been with them for 19 years, and when I checked GEICO's rates (at the prompting of a co-worker who also left USAA), I was floored at the savings.

I had Geico for about 5 years or so and never had any problems. Then my cousin became an AllState agent gave me a quote which was a little cheaper and also got me cheaper Homeowners Insurance.

What are you insuring that you can save $750? I have USAA and may have to will have to see what savings I could get with Geico.

I have USAA for auto. Granted, it has been 10 years or so, but I checked Geico to see if I could save 15%. The rate Geico quoted me was 50% higher than I was paying USAA. I haven't shopped around since.

I have my USAA auto policy up on one screen and the GEICO on another...I've mirrored coverages between the 3 vehicles I want to ensure and it is literally night and day.

USAA: $754.49 - Six-month premium
GEICO: $388.57 - Six-month premium

That's $731.84 in savings per year. I haven't even looked at homeowners.

Daughter's 2003 Honda Accord, Wife's 2011 Buick Enclave, and of course my old '05 Mazda that I will drive 'til the wheels fall off.

My wife and I have USAA and I rate check it against other companies from time to time. They're still cheaper than everyone else (for us) but USAA has become much less competitive in other areas, namely auto loan and homeowners insurance rates.

The fact the OP lives in Texas might have something to do with the high rate. Just a guess. In Texas, car insurance seems to be a hell of a lot higher than it is in Florida.

Same here, been with USAA all my life. Occasionally ran comparisons and nothing was close. I'll look again, been a couple years since compared.
They don't write motorcycle insurance, I got progressive cheaper than geico, same coverage comparison.

They (progressive) the ok care of my totaled bike via usaa. As he had usaa. I settled the property damage, still waiting on my final medical bills to finish up.

I called USAA and they admitted their inability to beat the GEICO quote...likely due to the "Texas" issue stated above. I'm now with GEICO. :D

I've been with geico for my car for ~4 years and when my home insurance comes up I'm going to see about switching to them also.

USAA has good rates but they are not the lowest.

you need to look at the total picture. if you own a home and two cars, you probably pay as much for your homeowners as your cars. State Farm has huge market share and are often the lowest of the major companies on homeowners. and then, with a multiline discount, they are hard to beat on auto.

I just checked the Geico site against what I am paying. It is only a few $ off. I have Amica and have been very happy with them.

We had Geico about 15 years ago, for a period of about 3 years; Never again will
I own a product from them.

At the time we had 12 month policies, and I was looking at renewing. The premium had been unchanged for the duration and I was about to send in the full payment when I double-checked it and noticed they shortened the term to 6 months, yet the premium was what my previous 12 mo. premium was ... effectively doubling my premium even though I'd had zero claims during those 3 years.

When I called to inquire, I was told that if I happened to have a claim they wouldn't have raised my rates, but because of an increase in claims statewide they had to raise mine. Needless to say they permanently lost a customer that day.

I've used Geico and Progressive. Had minor claims with both, and they were handled about the same. No issues whatsoever. I just switched back to Geico after being with Progressive for a while. I also switched to homeowner's ins. through them (Security First, technically) and saved about 500/year vs my old policy with Allstate.

My 2 kids are insured through Geico. It was about 35% cheaper than State Farm. Me and the wife's however, are still with State Farm. Geico could basically match what SF's price was but the homeowner's ins. was going to go up about 30%. This with no claims on a couple teenagers nor me and the wife.So yes,I have policies with 2 different ins. companies.
Sidenote- I read that Geico doesn't base their rates on credit scores like most of the other big names do..

There are a few insurance companies that are killing it with rates that you can't go direct to (ie Pekin Insurance) and have to go through an agency. Probably cheaper as their advertising costs are cheaper. I have Progressive and had it for years and got recommended an agent and saved me about 25-30% off my auto insurance.

Just a thought for people.

Have Geico now. Probably going back to Progressive as they'd save me more money. Had them before and they jacked my rates when my son turned 16. Moved to geico to get a discount on him. Looked last week and on 3 cars I'd save $600 for 6 month premium.
