There are no guaranteed wins on our schedule. Yes, I wrote that right. But, what I’m wondering is the QB tradeoff at Syracuse. On the one hand, it may well be that Milton gives you the best chance to get that win so you’re not 0-5. That seems pretty important because I wonder how much of our problems come down to guys not playing with confidence. How different would the season be if we win the ND game? Confidence can do a lot for a team. On the other hand, it seems like Syracuse is an opportunity to build for the future. If you have an inkling that you want to play Purdy later in the season, then shouldn’t you start playing him during this stretch with Syracuse, UMass, and a bye coming up? But if Chubba plays poorly you’ve basically signaled to your entire roster that we had to try this because we are playing for the future. Do some of the seniors check out if that happens? This seems like such a thorny question. Some make it sound so easy. There are tradeoffs here.
Personally I haven’t written off Travis. I think the young man can play much better than some posters on here would credit him. I just don’t think he’s healthy and I worry given his durability about game planning around him, especially considering what he does when at his best is unique and not replicable by the other QBs.
