Vinyl might be slightly better than the old films but only slightly...

You're talking about the guy that put fake defects in Grindhouse. It's an aesthetic/nostalgic thing, not a quality thing.

I'm absolutely susceptible to vinyl vs. digital music, whether there is actually any "there" there. Although I get the charm of film, I can't imagine that kind of appeal for this kind of retro tech. There is an entire ritual/hobbyist aspect to records that doesn't exist with 70mm film.

Especially for a film being created today. If someone wants to tell me that Lawrence of Arabia looks better on film than digital, I'll buy that, because it was directed and shot for film. There's always the possibility that something is lost on the way in conversion, or that there were certain choices made during filming based on film vs digital.

But I just don't see it with something being made today. You can make it "look" however you want, right? Maybe I just don't know enough about it.

The film QT is using for H8ful 8 has a greater landscape than standard film/digital film. He's using what's called Ultra Panavision 70 which has a very wide image.

Essentially, there's going to be stuff we won't be able to see on the edges if you don't see it in the retrofitted theaters. Might be some slight pan and scan for regular theaters and blu-rays.
