We’ve been tracking it in the pagenasty thread. Great games this weekend.
You can do that in baseball as well, if you have a designated hitter position. Just move the pitcher to DH, and put her back on the mound when needed. It could go on the whole game if need be.
Ah...and she was the DH as well, would explain it. She had been pulled again...Lady Noles on a tear right now!

My kids went to school with the Washington star pitcher. Very small school, in a very small town (Carroll, Ohio population of about 600)that turned out numerous D1 baseball and softball players for a couple years. Sam Bordner, the Louisville closer, also went to that school during the same time.
They always came back when down and now on to the WCWS! Congratulations Lady Noles!
Just a head's up, championship is a best of 3 series. Not like sand volleyball where it's double elimination in to a one game/match championship.
Yep, never watched a full game until this weekend, but really enjoyed it.
I also didn't know there was a "run rule" Seems kind of odd to me at that level, but just another thing that made the game interesting.

I occasionally seen him at some BC sporting events. Seemed like a nice guy. Little kids would get their pics taken with him and get autographs.

I thought the same thing. If she doesn't make the catch it's two on, nobody out. Maybe we still get out of it, but that's a tough situation.
If she doesn’t make play, there would be runners at first and second. The next play was an very poor throw that may have been counted as an error; nonetheless, if there were two runners on and that bad play bases would be loaded at the very least.
Could have been a disastrous 7 inning.

While true as to the next play, that subsequent at bat likely changes if there were two on, nobody out. They possibly bunt instead, to move the runners over. Even if the batter does the exact same thing, the throw maybe goes to either 2nd or 3rd (can't remember who fielded the grounder & made the bad throw).
If they don't win this game it will be a huge missed opportunity. Getting 5 runs off Alvelo doesn't happen every day..
