The Punisher - Netflix

I was blown away with his portrayal of the character in Daredevil, thought he stole the show when on screen.

Count me in as excited, too. I am still on Luke Cage so I've got some catching up to do.

Just watch Luke Cage until the Cottonmouth storyline is over and then read what happens and then read what happens in Iron Fist and skip straight to Defenders.

I've heard as much, but my Type A personality will insist that I sit through them all.

I haven't watched Luke Cage, but I am excited about this show. So should I get caught up on Luke Cage?

I saw this trailer with the sound off the first time, looked good. Saw this thread and rewatched with the sound on, even better!

Definitely like seeing Shane play other roles now that I watch for him. This seems like a good fit.

The first half dealing with Cottonmouth is excellent. The second half dealing with Diamondback was pretty boring and the actor playing the villain is a HUGE downgrade from the one playing Cottonmouth. But honestly that first Cottonmouth storyline is completed in a nice story arc so you can just watch it without finishing the series imo.

Exactly, there's really very little need to even watch the remainder of the series after Cottonmouth except to find out what happens to Luke at the very end, but it kind of wraps that up neatly in the Defenders so even that can simply be handled with a cursory read online.

So this is out now. Watched first episode. Thinking this will be the best of the bunch. Really enjoyed it.

I haven’t seen any yet but the reviews were not favorable. I might marathon it over the holiday though.

That is hard to believe. You and I see these pretty similar and you will like it, unless it falls apart. I got on RT after reading your post. It has a 65% but an audience score of 94%. The critics may not like the violence.

I don't watch comic book movies or shows at all, but might give this one a shot. Is there any prequel type of show or movie that I need to watch first to get a better idea of what's going on?

Daredevil

I think it’s pretty critical. The punisher is in that show. You see the philosophical differences between the characters.

There is very little resemblance to the Marvel universe and it's hard to tell it has anything to do with a comic through 6 episodes.
It is very violent, and at times, graphic. There is a lot of character development and the action scenes have been very good. No chance in hell I'd let a kid watch this show.

clone2 advised watching Daredevil first, but I really don't have the time, from what ny and phin share, would it be safe, where I am a comic ignorant, to just go straight to the Punisher?

Imo, you don't need to watch Daredevil season 2 to watch this series, it is mostly a stand-alone. Having said that, Daredevil season 2 is the best of the marvel shows up until The Punisher.

OK I got hooked and have binge watched to the final two episodes.

I really, really, really like it. Solid plot, overall fantastic acting (love the chemistry with him and Micro), and great action sequences. I suppose one could argue there may be some "filler" to get 13 hours out of this but I enjoyed the plot build up. I also have seen a lot of critics wailing on the show because of the gun violence in light of the recent shootings and overall violence. But that is just who the comic book character is and not sure how that is the show's fault.

Also enjoyed the lack of kung fu / mysticism element that was beginning to be too much with DD 2 then Iron Fist then Defenders.

But there is a reason audience score on IMDB is 9.2 and on RT is 94%.

Did anyone else notice Castle reading "Cyborgs and Barbie Dolls" in one of the episodes? The book is about feminism and gender neutrality. Kind of like Clint reading Cosmo in Heartbreak Ridge.

I was a little surprised that Team Cerberus didn't have a team member named Marc Spector too. I thought Netflix might jump into a Moon Knight series, as well.

Any surprise that fans loved it and the "enlightened" critics were less enthusiastic?

I’ve only finished episode one (which I was ambivalent about, WAY too slow and too much time spent daydreaming about his family....once or twice is enough, 5 times is overkill and boring. Once he got killing at the end it got much better, but I’d only give Ep 1 a C or maybe even C-.) but in that he was reading F Scott Fitzgerald’s The CrackUp. Which is three essays from Jazz era America about philosophy the main gist of which is that you can see life is hopeless yet still struggle to improve it and features the famous quote

“the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.”

He also reads Moby Dick in the first episode. Which begs the question, is Castle the evil inside of himself, or are the people who killed his family the fruitless pursuit to defeat evil?

I'm probably in the minority here, but it didn't wow me. If you follow trajectory of the story from start to finish, it's a mess. Lots of jumping around, the main plot line conveniently starts, shifts focus, then stops right where it has to to converge. They milked out the show too long to stretch it to 13 episodes.

By the end, I was just along for the ride to see how it ended.

It had some good elements, but the storyline could have been much better.

I felt like the Lewis Arc was simply there to glue the main story together otherwise there was no way to have that convenient, "Oh, you're a bad guy moment."

Though, talking a guy into suicide was a first for me on tv style shows.

Loved both seasons of DareDevil, 3 episodes in on Punisher (really like it so far), but couldn't get into LC or JJ...didn't even try Iron Fist.
