Considering watching this (I've DVR'd the second season and can catch the first on Demand.) Anyone have an opinion about this show?

I absolutely love it. Especially since I read the books (which it follows closely, even more so than GOT) and know where everything is heading.

The first season is based on the first book and deals with the first "outbreak" of vampires in NYC. It's very much in the line of the movie version of World War Z as the vamps are closer to the ultra quick zombies in that film than the slow rotter/walker zombies in Walking Dead.

The second season introduces you to a list of other players in this new Zombie war as it starts to spread outside of NYC and you start to understand a little bit about what the main antagonists plan is.

Seasons three and four will be based on the third book and those will be amazing. I won't spoil what happens but suffice it to say most characters will not survive the crazy %*^+ that's coming down the pipeline. And they will explain the true origins of the vampires (which is actually a neat and innovative take on the origin/history of vamps).

So basically, Season One starts slow...if by slow you mean almost the complete destruction of NYC. But even by Season Two....%*% is going down.

I like the show too except for the main character (the doctor). He reminds me of Jeff Goldblum and I can't stand him either lol

I don't think you're necessarily supposed to like Eph or his kid. You're certainly NOT supposed to like his kid, he's like Carl from TWD on steroids. He was horribly unlikable in the books and now he's horribly unlikable in the show. I'm actually glad he's not portrayed as some angelic wunderkind like typical Hollywood shows, it's more believable.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the character and everything to do with the actor.

I liked the new vamp character who's a badass. I was disappointed to see the special ops vamp crew get put down so easy.

Definitely, added a much needed true hero(maybe) to the mix.

Yeah, Quinlan was one of the best characters in the book by far. They introduced Vaughn (the vampire special ops leader) to say well Vaughn is a BAMF...but just wait until you see Quinlan.

Heard the buzz and tried to start watching the show OnDemand, only to find out that the first season costs $2.99 per episode or $34.99 for the whole season, on Comcast, while Season 2 is free. WTF is that all about?

After reading the thread here I have it a go.

Almost caught up to in season two, and it's been really good so far.

Doesnt FX have an app for iPads? If so I would check on there and see if anything is available

It does? I watched every episode I could, so I'm mistaken. Wanted to watch more but Hulu said that you'll have to watch through Fx?
If not, I'm happy to be mistaken.

I watch it on FX from my DVR but the other day when I was browsing Hulu I thought I saw it on there including 2nd season. Will check it out and let you know.

Not a bad episode last night [WARNING: Spoilers coming up], but it seemed a like they skipped over some things from where they left off the prior week. Or maybe I just missed some transition scenes.

Eph had a head shot in his sights when Palmer was on the ground - gotta double-tap when you have the chance. Worst assassin ever.

When Fet was choking out Eph's ex with the chain last week, didn't a bunch of worms get on him? No indication that he was infected this week. Hopefully not, as this show is severely lacking in likable characters.

Looks like Dutch is in for a little rapey rapey. Could've used a little more backstory on the detective that cleared the room to allow Palmer's visit, turned over Dutch, then inexplicably let Eph leave the massacre scene.

Did we see anything in the book that we didn't already know? [EDIT: To clarify, I mean screenshots from the book that the old man found and flipped through. I don't want any spoilers from the book, comic, or whatever the show is based off of.]

Agree with the lack of likable characters, especially Eph.

Not sure who writes the dialog for the show, but sometimes its really campy.

Love the old man, he is all business!

I'm going to give this a look. I saw a promo for a scene that looked dark, interesting and worth watching.

Oh definitely. It's very dark especially over the seasons. I don't want to give away spoilers for the tv watchers only but...let's just say as bleak as things are now in season two...this is actually the high water mark for humanity and the characters we've gotten to know. Things are going to go into an awesome but crazy spiral and characters you both love and hate will not come out of it.

Oh and unlike Walking Dead this does follow the books almost exactly. The only difference between the books and the show is that the book was white and Latino only and was basically a sausage party as the only female characters of note were the mother and Nora who was even more of a "damsel in distress" type of character than her more kickbutt CDC character in the show. As the author(s as Del Toro was supposedly heavily involved in the book plot as well) are Latino it's not surprising at all that the book is pretty misogynist and not a black guy to be seen. So the tv show wrote in some more female characters (crazy hot bisexual chick and her lesbian partner and kick butt female mayor) and a few black characters in minor roles to make it more PC friendly. BUT the plot has stayed the same.

How can it be true to the books, with the introduction of main characters not at all in the books?

Because they're not doing anything different. Just taking things that other white or latino male characters had done and assigning it to new characters. It doesn't change the overall plot at all.

Kind of like how in LOTR they stole from other characters to beef up Arwen's role so that she wasn't just an absent damsel in distress.

Was that the season finale?

Yes. Originally it was going to be four seasons with the first two seasons being one book and then the final book split in two. But now it looks like they're doing five as that didn't cover the entirety of The Fall (book two), instead it's maybe 2/3s through. You could assume maybe season three was going to be half book two and half book three BUT the Fall has one aitch of an ending that will make for a mindblowing season finale.

Thought this season was excellent, really grown to love the characters of Eichorst(he steals the show) and Mr. Quinlan. Almost rooting for the bad guys because many of the "good" characters just plain suck. Also, how bad was the acting of Alonso(Jamie Hector)?

After reading the spoilers I have lost all interest in the show.
