The NFL has been horrendous for years.
The NBA all star game and weekend is a joke as well. The game is horrible - I’m a NBA fan but will skip the entire weekend, with the game being the worst display of showing off that that reminds me of the AAU youth games. Dunking, no defense.

There was an All-star game in the early 90’s that was edge of the seat excitement that went to OT. Riley and I can’t remember who was the West coach, they were coaching like it was the 7th game of the series. Of course MJ, Barkley, David Robinson, Magic, etc were all in it and it was really good. What a change to today.

MLBs game and events are still the best but even that I’ve skipped the last few years.

I haven’t watched an NBA all star game in years. Used to look forward to, but I just can’t these days.

the game was actually decent this year. I agree, it had become unwatchable, but this year was decent, especially the 2nd half.

I don't really care for the Pro Bowl, MLB or NHL allstar events (other than the HR Derby).

NBA is interesting, like OP mentioned, there had been a drop off from the 90s. It's actually something Lebron and KD touched on in some interviews (incl the Cari Champion car ride interview). They said it was incumbent upon them to get their teams to play better defense and put on a better show for the fans. Basically agreeing with OP that the game had lost it's competitive edge.

I think you saw a partial return to that in this year's game as @tarheelinfl mentioned above. Hope to see more of it in the future.

The NBA is incredibly lucky to have guys like Lebron, KD, Steph, CP3, etc... vocally leading the league as well as a Commish like Adam Silver. The product continues to improve.

The only game or all star event I make a point to watch is the MLB All Star Game. Inter-league play made it a little less "special" but it's still fun because there's no backing off in baseball. Second to that for me would be the hockey skills competition. I'll watch it if I catch it but won't seek it out.

I’m more of an NFL and NHL fan but the NBA is probably in the strongest position of any of the big 3 leagues and the only one showing strong growth in younger viewers. NBA also benefits from having the most forward thinking commissioner, though Manfred isn’t terrible but has to deal with all the grouchy old men who don’t want to accept that it’s not the 1960s anymore.

I thought this year’s NBA ASG was better than usual. I hope next year they pick sides at half court before the game and don’t bother with coaching or strategy. Just a 5 on 5 pick up game of the best players in the world.
