Italy has now seen 1,016 deaths, amid a total number 15,113 infections in a matter of a few weeks. Italy is the world's worst-hit country after China. The media is doing their job and helping save lives.

I know a lot of people think of this from the perspective of "I'm only 45, I have .05% chance of getting seriously sick from this thing." The problem with that way of thinking is that you or someone you come into contact with will run into someone who is in the most affected age ranges. So don't go see grandma in the nursing home this month mkay?

edit: totally made up numbers just to try to make a point.

Can we just not on the media hype thing. It is exhausting. There Is a virus going around. Some are getting really sick. most aren't. However, if the numbers hold true, we are not prepared or capable of handling this.

Media saving lives. Bless your heart.

The media focuses on the known quantity, the numerator. It doesn't focus on the demoninator because it's unknown.

Look, this thing is serious business. AND the media plays a part in the mass hysteria, through the spread of misinformation, either knowingly or unknowingly.

Both, can be (and both probably are) true.

As I understand it, Italy has a large Chinese contingent that works in the fashion industry there.
Also, they have a larger elderly population. Or so I read.
