I am stunned at reading some of the comments about our coaching in these other threads. All I can say is wow, and how shockingly disappointing it is to read. We have won what, 34 games in the last three years with only one loss? Yet, some of our "fans" are STILL questioning his ability to coach and his playcalling?
I love and will always admire and respect Coach Bowden for what he did for our football program and University as a whole. Let's face it-our football program wouldn't be what it is even today without Coach Bowden.
However, after that blowout loss at Florida, our program was as low as it's been in a long long time. Have some of you forgotten how low the program was after the, what, 37-10 blowout loss at Florida in '09? Yet, Jimbo took over, infused new talent in the program, and won a national championship in only 4 years. Our talent was so weak when he got here that he personally told me that when he arrived as OC his first year, the wide receivers he was coaching at LSU were stronger than our linemen! He also said the only player on our roster at that time that he would have recruited for LSU was Preston Parker. He immediately upgraded our recruiting and our players have gotten bigger and stronger. The quick turnaround is nothing short of amazing.
Look, woukd I like the offense to be a little more wide-open? Sure I would. However, we have a quarterback who's been with the program only about a month worth of practices and completely new personnel. I think the creativity with playcalling will increase as the season goes on. I also understand that the OL played badly last night. However, we did start 4 new linemen and, as another site noted, 45% of our team had never played a road game. Think of how encouraging that is for the future! I think the OL will get better. Heck - they have to. They can't play much worse than they did last night, but that was against a very good fromt 7. Let's not fool ourselves. They were #3 in the nation last year and almost all of them returned. Let's also not forget that we've lost 29 seniors and juniors to the draft of the last three years.
In sum, questioning Jimbo's ability to coach by some of the posters on here is simply ridiculous. If Jimbo has not proven himself already but leading us back to the top in four short years, some of our fans will never be satisfied. We will see how valuable he is if he decides to leave for an SEC program, which I hope never happens. Go 'Noles!
