Florida State's Thursday practice had a few different elements than normal starting with receiver Nyqwan Murray.

Murray has worn No. 80 the last two season and with Kermit Whitfield graduating, the junior-to-be opted to wear No. 8. On Thursday, he drew some strange looks for wearing No. 61. That said, he still looked pretty smooth going through drills today.

Now, for the news:

>Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said Keith Gavin and Josh Kaindoh both missed practice after picking up some small injuries. He said Gavin rolled his ankle but was playing really well before the injury. Kaindoh is out with a hamstring. Fisher said next week's spring break should give both players a chance to rest and get back to full strength when practice resumes in two weeks time.

>Both Ricky Aguayo and Logan Tyler were kicking field goals in the early portion of open practice. They each made their attempts but what's telling is the pure sound each makes when striking the ball. Aguayo has a quiet release whereas Tyler's leg makes a loud thud with each kick. Tyler had one ball which loudly bounced off the indoor practice facility after it went through the uprights.

>FSU was working with Deondre Francois, J.J. Cosentino, Bailey Hockman and Jake Rizzo at quarterback. Francois spent a few minutes simulating throwing on the run and appeared pretty comfortable doing it. Much has been said about Hockman's arm strength yet Cosentino had some solid throws too.

>It wouldn't be a FSU practice without tight ends doing footwork. Redshirt junior Ryan Izzo was fluid going through drills. He was followed by Mavin Saunders, Naseir Upshur and Tre' McKitty, who all looked comfortable during the exercises. Fisher was extremely complimentary of Izzo by saying he's one of the most consistently dependable players on the team.

>Ethan Frith and Josh Ball were working at left tackle while Derrick Kelly, Abdul Bello and Jauan Williams were getting time in at left guard. Andrew Boselli, Baveon Johnson and Corey Martinez each got reps at center. Cole Minshew, Mike Arnold and Greg Turnage were able to work at right guard while Rick Leonard and Brock Ruble spent time at right tackle. Fisher said the young centers have all seen reps and are getting a feel for what to expect.
