Time Off For The Remainder Of The Holidays

My holiday plan is to work from home on the internet. Seriously, clients have me busy to where my winter/spring FSU sports schedule is starting to get screwed up.

This weekend I've been jamming through online courses for a professional certification, next week I need to figure out any end of year spending.

It's all good - at this stage I'm just happy to have work.

I hope this is not status quo for you, and I hope you don’t have a family. I’m glad you’re working, but remember in the long run your family pays the bill for you working like that.

I’m out until the second, though I’ll be working on a few things from home.

I have to "work" all next week. Some of my people are in, some out. We only get the 25th and 1st off, no Monday bridge days..
Same here...work doesn’t stop. Little different this year with the wife still home with the baby. So she’s been able to take care of most the normal holiday errands

Same here. I spent a week of vacay on a cruise earlier this month, so I'm only going to take a half day off today and NYE.

Today and tomorrow only. Most people work from home for the rest of the week but I am going to go in to get some things finished and make sure some some fee checks get in and deposited.

Recently retired so there’s no going back for me :D

Me too....at 56....it's absolutely the best. The daily commute/grind was killing me slowly. Enjoy your retirement....and if you even get a tiny bit bored during the week, simply think what you might have to be doing at that precise moment...conference calls droning on, putting together action plans to meet absurd goals, hiring/discipline actions, performance appraisals, more meetings, customer complaints, lazy employees, even more meetings to plan more meetings, business travel, two phones, laptop....then sit back and smile.

Happy Holidays!

We are off the two eves and the two big days. Office is “closed” this week but, like others, I will slip in off and on to make hay with limited distractions. The ability to crank out some work without phone calls, walk ins, meetings, etc... is actually kinda relaxing.

I have officially been out of the office since last Wednesday even though I cooked the holiday meal for 300 employees. Don't have to be back until January 2nd. I plan on accomplishing little to nothing.

Y'all?

I’m off til the 3rd. Good times

Hey squiffy, you aren’t looking to be fired by yet another governor, are you? I am fascinated by the work you have done and our state/world needs to set people like you free to do what is best for us all.
Happy clean water and high ground to you this Holiday Season.

Thank you Bill, I'm just an old hand driven by a fear of failure yet oblivious to politics.

At this stage I suppose I'm a professional expert witness - testified in two land use cases during the summer/fall and have three more trials coming up. Mostly I represent local governments such as Ponce Inlet, Martin County, Bonita Springs and Estero but I also assist a major mining company in central Florida, homebuilders in Palm Beach and Broward, and aggrieved homeowners in Walton County. I actually enjoy the process of studying a case, depositions and final testimony, Judges are more orderly than the executive and legislative branches of government which is good for my insecurities.

But maybe I'd be better off following your lead and living a country life in the mountains however without your gator neighbor!

Have a good Christmas!

I was on the other side of the aggrieved homeowners in Walton County case. I'd bet I know things you were not made aware of about the primary complainant and his complaint. But, that is for a private conversation not one on a public message board.

It's usually a busy time of year for me. I didn't schedule anything for today or tomorrow, but I've got a 2 day gig right after Xmas.

For those that don't know, I'm a yacht captain and ASA instructor. It's busy this time because people are off work and book vacation trips and certification lessons.

That's all on me though. I'm my own boss, but don't tell my wife I said that.

Nothing this week. Basically our whole 5000 person company shuts down, unless you have a critical project that can’t tolerate it. Which is nice because no emails or calls.

I felt that way for a full year after I retired. Then I got really, really bored. I now work at a no brainer part time job and I'm glad to be busy.

18 months in, walk, gym, golf, softball and take care of the stuff around the house. I’m still loving it, but I’m glad you’re happy now.

Sounds like a little bourbon talk is in order between geezers... That would be a fun conversation to hear.

Update on the working week. No one is around at all this week. I am here to ensure someone is steering the ship and respond to crises. Plan on leaving after lunch to go take skiing lessons.

In the mortgage industry there is no such thing as a day off....none of the people I need (half my underwriters, half the bankers I deal with, insurance agents, title companies, appraisers) are working full schedules but I'm here.

So, we have optional work days this week, which means if you opt to get paid, you work. (or, you use leave time which I already burnt since this is the first time in 14 years the company went this route)
Turns out, the option was good, since we woke up to a Santa day present of a stopped up kitchen drain. I cleaned the traps and ran a short little snake (2 footer) down each drain, to no avail.
Knowing that it was an expensive long shot to get somebody out on Christmas Day, we piled the dishes up after a hand wipe “wash”, hoping for drainage of more water to complete the chore later.
Called a local plumber (in some 27 years at our crib this is a first), and they sent out a very polite, efficient, and quick kid who had it going on. He did the deed and left no mess behind. Young Justin ran a snake and then used a lye product named Glub to help our pipes and septic system.
My main goal has been met. Wifey is happy. The rest is gravy.
After tipping him a $20 and calling his office to give him props, I decided that the option of staying home the rest of the day is best. Shoot, all that drama has me looking to pour a drink...
What would you have done?
