Was Aaron Hernandez Gay? Documentary Explores Football Player's Rumored Sexual Past

The two-part Aaron Hernandez Uncovered, which aired on the Oxygen network on Saturday and Sunday, presented a number of people close to the former NFL star who revealed Hernandez was a gay man. They also said his struggle with his sexual identity may have been the source of his violent behavior.

In the film, Alyssa Anderson, Hernandez’s ex-girlfriend, recalled rumors about Hernandez being involved with another man back when they were attending the University of Florida.

I am disappointed, but not at all surprised, that people are asserting that Hernandez' sexuality/discomfort with it was the reason behind his violent behavior.

I think I will self-sensor my next few comments, at least for now.

In addition to the problems brought about by attending that school to the east, he seems to have been troubled. No way could I posit how or why they reached such problematic proportions. Repeat, he was a gator.

Completely agree. He was a horrible person, didn't seem to have redeemable qualities, wasted an amazing amount of physical talent. I give 2 hoots who was banging him and have no interest in the documentary. At this juncture, why he was such a despicable person doesn't matter. If it WAS his sexual orientation, then all the people obsessing about are part of the problem.

Hmm, maybe he committed those crimes to get back to a "target rich" environment-NPI.
 
I can certainly understand how living in a world of super-machoism and being gay would make someone fight with everything to hide it, even leading to a tendency to be more violent. But being homosexual certainly wouldn't be the main cause of violence, although I could see it and his fear of being outed as one of the legs.

Super-machoism? Seems like a lot of that has been "neutered" recently.

We're working on it, but it still exists in tons of areas. You don't undo thousands of years of patriarchy in a few years.
