I hope one day we’ll end the fruitless war on drugs like marijuana and redirect those efforts to curb the tide of opiate abuse. It’s terrifying and sad.

Most law enforcement agencies shifted their focus a while ago. At least the ones my friends work for. Most of their weed busts are traffic stops where the driver doesn’t hide it or they find it during a search for something else. Maybe a LR cop can chime in
There's hardly a war on marijuana, there is a war because there's a problem on so many drivers driving high.

Who are about one zillionth of the problem driving and texting is. Who's going after the cell phone companies? The 'war on drugs' is pointless in the grand scheme of our nation's problems...

yeah that was not terribly surprising, but sad anyway.

Cynical? Wow, talk about having your head buried in the sand. That's usually my first assumption when a famous person dies."Tom's autopsy report shows the singer was on several pain meds, including Fentanyl patches, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl."
Two benzos, an SSRI, oxy and all that fentanyl? Is it no wonder his heart stopped? I speculated back then he ODd and the wife thought I was being cynical...
Stoned driving isn't a huge issue. Enforcement of stoned driving laws is inherently difficult as well. Better we focus on other things like drunk driving and texting.
Having seen the legalization movement evolve first hand it really isn't that big a deal. My in-laws visit and gripe about all the "dope shops" as they down another beer or bottle of wine. I don't even bother pointing it out.
The biggest issue I've observed is kids definitely believe that smoking marijuana is not bad for you and more do try it than when it was illegal. On the plus side, they seem view cigarettes as very bad for you. Ideally they don't drink, smoke or smoke pot, but that's just not reality for most.
How is smoking marijuana bad for you?
I don't have any idea if THC has serious negative side effects (laws have hampered research in that regard), but it's hard for me to assume inhaling smoke into your lungs is healthy, or not even potentially harmful.
If your wife was pregnant, would you want her smoking anything?
Aren't most overdoses "accidental". Pretty sure he knew what he was taking.
