I have seem to have totally missed this connection until I saw the Glass trailer.

Really enjoyed Unbreakable many years ago. Watched it again the other night with my son. Well done and great twist at the end.

Never saw Split as it looked creepy to me but it got good reviews.

Looking forward to Glass as it looks very intriguing.

What say you LR?

Split was a really good movie with a great ahh moment in the ending scene. It is a shame that the trailer spoils that moment but they had to move on and advertise this movie.

I too enjoyed Unbreakable. Never heard of Split until this thread. Have been seeing the ads for Glass and it looks interesting.

I did like the "normal people" spin on super heroes from Unbreakable.

It really is interesting he tied Split to Unbreakable. When it came out I kinda dismissed it as a multitude personality creepy movie which isn't my speed. It looks really freaky and too scary for the family.

That too was great about Unbreakable. The subtleness of Bruce Willis the moments with his son were great. Also him discovering his powers.

edit - spoiler - but if you haven't seen a movie that is 10+ years old, is it really a spoiler?

Yep, exactly. He was definitely the reluctant hero. The dawning realization he had never been sick. The kid slipping on more and more weight without Bruce knowing. Then the child-like eagerness to keep going.

I really did enjoy it, so will need to watch the others. Just didn't know this would end up being a trilogy.

@FSUSarah , watch it.

This movie falls into the category of good movies that a story is told and doesn't need a huge amount of CGI to be good. Transformers and Marvel movies live on the other end of the spectrum of high CGI with mediocre story / plot. God I am getting old.

No that's a good point. I saw Unbreakable in the theater and it was a slow burn with a powerful payoff. Really a perfect story of how evil needs good in the world and in comics. I know a lot has been said about M. Night Shyamalan but in spite of his bad movies he had some really good ones. He is a great story teller.

Totally agree.

Split was great and a must watch if you liked unbreakable. Didnt even know Glass was a movie.

So, I never really liked Unbreakable very much. And I stayed on the M. Night bandwagon longer than almost anyone...I even found redeeming value in Lady in the Water and Devil. I just found Unbreakable kind of...boring.

I watched it again recently with my son, figuring that I just didn't "get it" at the time. He liked it...I still didn't like it any more than I remembered. For a lot of reasons, but most of all that it's interminably boring to me. I'm willing to chalk this one up to just being a me thing...it was a director I like, arguably at his peak, well loved by people who's opinions I respect. But it just misses me...it is what it is I guess.

On the other hand, I LOVED Split. And I'm more than a little excited to pick it up with Glass, despite not liking Unbreakable.

I have the same perspective. I like Shyamalan's movies, generally, including Lady in the Water and The Happening; but I did not enjoy Unbreakable nearly as much as the others. Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson seemed to be phoning in generic, bored performances, though that may be attributable to lazy, formulaic writing.

For those who liked Split, is it really freaky or just suspenseful?

Just a bit of both. Well acted. Pretty compact story. Tense, but (mostly) not terrifying. I guess it's pretty freaky, but mostly in the acting and scenario, not freaky like nightmare inducing imagery.

I felt ok letting a young teen watch it, and I'm pretty conservative about stuff compared to a lot of people.

Ok, so you're with me. Even his "bad" movies had things I liked (although I never saw Airbender or After Earth) or at least responded to.

Unbreakable didn't elicit any reaction from me (unless boredom is a reaction). It just didn't involve me either emotionally or visually. I'm just missing whatever gene other people have that clicks to that movie.

I too have been more forgiving of m knight shamaladingdong than most. But unbreakable was one that I didn't like as much. go figure. I really liked the Village for example, which most people don't. I even liked Signs, despite obvious flaws.

Split was VERY well acted imo and a good story. I had already seen the trailer for Glass, so I wasn't surprised by the linkage.

I dug Signs, as well...But I'm one of those weirdos who's into that stuff.

Funny what some people like that others don't. Art just speaks to a person and not to others... I liked Signs. I didn't think The Happening was as bad as many people say (not Wahlberg's best work). I was okay on The Village but have seen it a couple times (if it was bad, I'd have stopped at 1). The Last Airbender was stupid IMO. The Visit was creepy but I didn't care for it too much.

Unbreakable is my personal MKS film. I enjoyed the story/premise and thought the twist was just as good as The Sixth Sense. Split was also excellent and you can count me as eager to see Glass.

The Village is my favorite Shyamalan movie, followed closely by Signs.

Watched Signs tonight for the first time in forever with the family.

This is a really good movie. The comedy relief moments then the suspenseful moments right after.

Mel Gibson before he went nuts and Joaquin Phoenix after Gladiator and before he went nuts.

So well done. Story of faith and family and an alien invasion.
