Using cellphones during takeoff and landing

The US court of appeals in DC has thrown out a lawsuit from the flight attendants' union that challenged the FAA's authority to change the really stupid rule that prohibited the use of electronic devices on planes. The FAA finally saw how dumb it was (even during takeoff and landing) and dropped the rule, but the flight attendants got mad because no one talked to them about it first and now it meant that even fewer people would be paying attention to them, so they sued. No more though - feel free to use every electronic device at your disposal!

Oh stewardess - could you bring me another Jack and Coke??

Thank god I don't fly much anymore. Stewardesses are horrible now and anyone making a non emergency phone call on a plane is a douche canoe.

I think the airlines have really stepped up service the last couple years. More and better in-flight entertainment, better food, wifi on many planes and going along with or even pushing the change to let passengers use electronic devices on the tarmac and during takeoff/landing.

I noticed they didn't say anything about cell phones on my last couple flight. They made the change all sneaky like.

If it's not a big deal we use our electronics....then why is it a big deal??

I thought you still have to have the phones in airplane mode but you no longer have to turn them off. This applies to tablets and smaller but laptops still have to be put away for takeoff and landing.

I've kept my phone on a few times throughout the flight and honestly outside of the minute or two immediately before/after takeoff/landing, there's no signal... so really, there's very little additional opportunity to make calls / text.

Not sure why flight attendants care, the more occupied we are w/ our glowing little screens the less we'll bother them.

I'd say calling and texting represent a small share of the time I spend on a handheld computer.

Airlines can have their own rules to not allow it. Delta always let you have airplane mode with headset on or not. Well since regs changed. Allegiant makes you turn phone off and no head sets. it sucks. i turn it on when they sit down
