Swimming Varjasi records personal-best 100 free for Olympic consideration time

Peter Varjasi took home two medals from the German National Swimming Championships in Berlin, that ran from April 25-28.

Varjasi turned in his personal best in the 100-meter free in prelims at 48.45, claiming the top seed. He was just off the mark in finals, touching for silver at 48.57. Both swims were under the Olympic consideration time (48.58).

On Thursday, Varjasi swam the 100 fly, contributing his best at 52.21 for third place, just ahead of Tobias Schulrath in fifth (52.92) after swimming 52.45 in prelims. Schulrath also touched 17th in the 100 free (50.48).

Germany is expected to announce its rosters for the Olympics and European Championships this week.

Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier

Kayleigh Clark and Isabel Gregersen competed at the Last Chance Olympic Trials qualifier in Indianapolis on April 25 in the women’s 10-meter platform. Clark finished third with a score of 274.10, which is her career best. Gregersen placed ninth (222.20).

Polish National Swimming Championships

Former Seminole Jakub Ksiazek and women’s team signee Ameila Marek competed at the Polish National Swimming Championships.

Marek swam a time of 1:01.06 in prelims of the 100 fly and went on to place fifth at 1:01.22. She also placed ninth in the 50 fly (27.51) and fifth in the 50 breast (32.29).

Ksiazek placed ninth in the 50 free (22.69).

This week Gloria Muzito is scheduled to compete at the African Senior Championships (April 30-May 5) and Utku Kurtdere will race in the Turkish National Championships (May 2-4).
