Interesting retweet from Ira Schoffel about Fox Sports website losing record views due to it's "pivot" from text articles to only videos. I went to their website and it's a mess, you have to suffer through 30 second videos instead of just easily skimming an article. Supposedly they fired their writers for a few celebrity faces and now just provide streams for their content.

Sad thing is that some replies indicated that their revenue might have increased due to the video ads bringing in more money.

Figures since Fox sports has been pushing multiple ads a day into my Twitter feed. Never seen so many and figured they must be struggling.

I'm glad since I'm not a fan of the soap opera angle that they've gone all in on (Bayless, etc.) I've noticed many websites have made it hard to get to a simple box score as well.

Not from me.

News sites have been moving that way, as well. I'd much rather spend a minute learning whatever is useful in an article I read than five minutes (plus a commercial) having to wait for someone to get through reading to me.

When Warchant quit offering the articles in addition to the videos, people went berzerk...

I vaguely remember that. Frankly, I find the videos worthless unless they show a specific highlight or injury. And only if the vid is imbedded into the article right below the text explaining the vid (and do not direct play the vid, make me hit play at my discretion).

The press conf and interview videos are worthless as well, would much rather read the quick points and move on, unless there is a true hilarious moment or tantrum, ie, "im a man, im 40", "talkin bout practice", "playoffs, playoffs?!, classic Bobby quotes, etc.

Agree on videos NOT being my preferred format. And articles that basically just explain a video that is forced to open as I scroll through the article are even worse.

I hate this new forced video format for news. I'll see a link to a "Story" only to find out that it's entirely video. More times than not, I'll close out of it. I'm not a fan of having to watch video clips. And, yes, those blasted ads make it even worse.

I think that's most people. I'm only interested in video if it's showing hilights or something crazy. Most of the time I just want to glance through the article. I do understand that video tends to have higher ad pay values since you're required to watch them, at least for a bit, but they are something I ignore most of the time.

If you like to red to long form stories, this is a pretty cool. Registration is free and they will send long form stories from the week to your inbox. It's one email with small statements regarding each linked story.

If they are making more revenue from less page views then I don't think they care. However I can't stand video only articles and like others above I will always close out of them. Too much of a time commitment.

They may get more money from advertisers for the format, but if the eyeballs keep dropping then the money will dry up. Just have to hope they figure out what everyone here has said, your format sucks, change it and people will return. I desperately want a non-ESPN source for sports. Heck, I may have to go to bleacherreport.

I went to it the other day. That visit lasted less than 5 minutes. It is terrible. I wonder who thought that was a good idea?
