why in both football and basketball TV consistently shows a replay from a play or few plays before rather than the preceding play that makes a huge difference in the game?

For example, in basketball instead of showing whether it was a charging or a defensive foul they will show a dunk from a few plays ago. Even worse, often they show players just standing around in a huddle. The game could be tied with 30 seconds to go and they are showing dunk from a minute before.

In football there will be a holding call that negates a 35 yard pass, and they will show the pass rather than the most important part of the play, which is who the hell was it that was holding? Sure the ref calls the guy's number (at least usually) but show me how it was holding. That is what is significant. I'd rather see the play over again than hear the side line reporter talk about where the assistant coach met up with his girlfriend. I'm not even making this about FSU. But, you can bet this stuff will happen in tonight's game.

Somehow baseball does a much better job umpiring their games and showing pertinent replays. Maybe basketball and football don't show the replays because they are purposely trying to cover up for their poor officiating. I don't know. Does anyone else need a tinfoil hat?
