The number of former pro sport greats who for all practical purposes
are now flat broke, is astonishing! Millions and millions just flushed down
the toilet. Here are just a few:
Lawrence Taylor: His over $10 million in NFL earnings were squandered away
as a result of drugs and poor lifestyle choices.
Clinton Portis: We watched his $50 worth of paychecks go down the drain
because of gambling debts and failure to pay Uncle Sam his fair share.
Tiki Barber: After a successful career, Tiki made the fatal mistake of leaving
his pregnant wife for some hot little intern he hooked up with. Alimony payments
and child support leaves him living practically hand to mouth.
Duece McAllister: A much better footballer than business man, his poor business choices
have left him broke.
Terrell Owens: Watched his $80 million worth on NFL earnings being lost to bad investments and child support payments.
Aaron Hernandez: Shortly after signing a $40 million contract with the Pats, Aaron was tied to
at least 3 shootings, one of which landed him in prison for the rest of his life. He now makes
a few bucks a day, just enough to keep him supplied with gum, toothpaste, deodorant, and
soda pop from the prison commissary
.
Ray Rice: Right at the start of a promising football career, cameras caught Ray punching
his girlfriend in some casino elevator. As the NFL now considers this action a big no-no, it is
doubtful that Ray will ever draw another NFL paycheck.
Dan Marino: One of the all-time great NFL quarterbacks, this Hall of Famer made a common
business mistake of placing all of his eggs in one basket. Loading his portfolio with "Business Domain" stock, he had to stand by helplessly and watch the value sink to zero. Like many investors, he witnessed the company go into bankruptcy.
Michael Vick: After earning a staggering $130 million from the NFL, Michael is now practically broke. All of the money went to his well-publicized dog fighting trial defense, as well as his inability to properly budget the funds he still has left.
Warren Sapp: Another NFL Hall of Famer, Warren drew Millions in football paychecks. Unfortunately for him he made the bad decision to invest these millions in low cost
housing in Florida. The housing bubble burst in 2008 and these millions evaporated
in bankruptcy proceedings.
O.J. Simpson: Once one of the most iconic of all professional athletes, O.J. is now an inmate
in some hell-hole prison in Nevada. Heisman Trophy winner, pro football darling, movie actor,
O.J. lost it all. He sits in prison, a place he has called home since 2008, hopeful that the Parole Board will take pity on him in his upcoming parole hearing sometime
in 2017. Now practically wheel chair bound, his football damaged knees are unable to support the 340 pounds he was last reported to be tipping the scales at. The funds that were first reported being sent his way by adoring female fans is said to have long since ceased.
Scottie Pippen: Now how can you earn $120 million and end up in a soup line?
I guess it wasn't all that hard for poor Scottie. A series of bad business investments (including $4 million for a jet plane that couldn't even fly) have left him hustling anyway he can to keep a roof over his head and food on the dinner table.
Dennis Rodman: Another one of the NBA 'bad boys', Dennis was a spectacle both on
and off the court. Many of us remember him appearing on some talk show donned in a wedding gown. But his antics didn't stop there. His life style and poor spending habits left him pretty much broke, and is currently on the hook for more than $900,000 in back
child support payments.
"WHERE'S MY MONEY?"
"I'M INNOCENT, I TELL YA!"
"I THINK THIS WILL BE TOUGHER THAN WHEN I WAS IN GAINESVILLE!"
"AFTER REVIEWING THAT TAPE, I DON'T THINK I HIT HER ALL THAT HARD!"
"BUT THE PRICE/EARNINGS RATIO LOOKED SO GOOD!"
"HEY BROTHER! CAN YOU SPARE A BUCK?"
Are you for real, Dennis Rodman?
