I’m back with another edition of Where Are They Now. Interest in the series seemed to be fading which is why I slowed the updates down, but perhaps NFL preseason has sparked people to begin asking “what ever happened to ….?” If you want to see more updates, be sure to like the thread.

In this multi-part edition, we take a look at some of FSU’s recent linebackers.

Nigel Bradham
Turned Pro: 2012
Salary: $641,406/year
Drafted: Bills, 4th round, 105 Overall
Current: Bills
NFL career teams: 1, Bills
NFL career stats: 212 tackles, 2.5 Sck, 1 INT, 2 FF

NFL Background: The general consensus is that Buffalo Bills got a good value for Bradham going in the 4th round of 2012. In 2012 Nigel Bradham played in all 16 games, and became a regular starter after game 5. In the last game of his rookie season, Bradham had a career game posting 11 tackles, which tied a game high record for the Bills. Bradham took a step back in 2013, and while he played in all 16 games, he only started 2. Bradham is coming off a career year in 2014, recording 104 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three turnovers despite missing two games.

Current Status: Starting LB. Bradham is entering a contract year and will be a free agent at the end of 2015. He's best suited as a 4-3 outside linebacker, but has been asked to switch back inside under Rex Ryan. The Bills salary cap situation is a complicated – there are a number of other Bills also fighting for contract deals, so he will be playing hungry which could lead to another strong season.

Geno Hayes
Turned Pro: 2008
2014 Salary: $1,000,000 ($125k guaranteed)
Drafted: Bucs, 6th round, 175 overall
Current: Unknown, Apparently retired
NFL career teams: 3, Bucs, Bears, Jags
NFL career stats: 401 tackles, 10 Sck, 6 INT, 6 FF

NFL Background: Described as a “smallish, athletic linebacker who makes plays all over the field,” Hayes was drafted in the 6th round. He did a lot, all things considered. Of the 68 linebackers taken in the sixth round, only four made more than 40 starts. Hayes was one of them. The seven year LB has played in 85 games with 59 starts, and scored two career TDs on a blocked punt return and INT returns.

Current Status: Appears to have hung up his cleats. Hayes was not resigned by the Jags and there is no sighting of Hayes in other NFL training camps. Hayes, who had lingering knee issues saw the writing on the wall but “professionally gutted out the season in a reduced role.” Good luck to Geno in his next endeavors.

Mister Alexander
Turned Pro: 2011
Salary: N/A
Drafted: UFA
Current: N/A
NFL career teams: 4, Texans, *Bucs, *Cowboys, *Seahawks (*practice squad)
NFL career stats: 12 Tackles

NFL Background: Alexander, 27, was an undrafted free agent out of Florida State in 2011, signing with the Houston Texans and appearing in 14 games from 2011 to 2012, mostly on special teams. He was out of the NFL in 2013, but spent time on the practice squads of both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys last season before being released by the Cowboys on Feb. 18. Alexander spent time with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2013, as well as the Omaha Mammoths of the Fall Experimental Football League in 2014.

Current Status: Jags training camp. Alexander was signed by the Jags on 8/24/15. He was previously signed by the Seahawks in March 2015 but was waived in June 2015. Looks like Alexander may get another chance with the Jags.
