Wondering how many of you were in Seminole Hard Rock on Saturday and what you thought of the atmosphere.
Here's what my experience was like:
Parked in the yellow lot and took the hike to the pregame parking lots where we walked up on a group of Seminoles I know - I see you Domingo -- partying with the Hurricanes. Hung out with them for an hour or so, surrounded by Hurricanes, and didn't see anything but hospitality. Fresh beers and food off the grill kept coming.
The parking lot was dominated by Orange and Green. When we got into the stadium, my guess was about 35-40 percent of the people in the stands were wearing garnet and gold. After most all the Canes left, I thought there was 20-25k Seminoles left, which is about 35-40 percent of the stadium's capacity. What did you all think?
The stadium was loud in the first quarter but FSU's team silenced UM. After that all you heard was the Warchant being driven by the fans. It wasn't as melodic as with the Chiefs but it was no less passionate.
When the UM band took the field, I counted the instruments. There were 67. Everyone else was carrying a flag or a baton, probably about 35 of them. I couldn't much hear whatever they were playing.
I was in the upper level endzone, where I like to sit in order to see the all 22 view, and it got HOT up there. I'd been told the roof holds the heat in and man does it. Other than that, I really enjoyed the stadium. Easy access to clean restrooms, adult beverages and concessions even in the cheap seats. Yes, the concessions were pricey but aren't they in every stadium?
I know some of you hate the club music but I like their playlist.
My only complaint was they didn't show replays of FSU's highlights except when the Seminoles scored touchdowns, so we still had like six times more highlights on their big screens than did the Canes.
Heard there were a lot of fights in the stands but I didn't see a one up in the rafters where I sit (4th row from the top). Probably to hot to fight. Count me a little disappointed by that. In years past I've been amused by the 30-second bouts between middle-aged fat guys (or women) dressed in orange that are hysterical to watch. They start fast and end ugly and exhausted.
The Cane fans around me were sitting with FSU fans so they were polite. I think they knew they were in the deep end of the pool even before kickoff. As the game progressed, it was obvious to those I spoke to that Miami has a very long, uphill battle to reach where FSU has climbed.
Been coming to these rivalry games for 50 years, and a night like Saturday night makes for a wonderful weekend.
