There have been many names mentioned for the DC job. Today we will look at Brad White. He is someone that his name has been tied to the FSU defensive coordinator job. Brad is from the Northeast (Concord, Mass). He is only 42 years old. When you look at his resume he played college football at University of Georgia. Most of his coaching career has been east outside of 2 years at Air Force. Since 2018 he has been at Kentucky. He first was the OLB coach and now is the DC.
Why Brad White? Well he checks the SEC Box (Kentucky)/ACC box (Wake Forest). He coached in the NFL. I am not going to lie, 6 years in the NFL as a coach has peaked my interest. The NFL is where you have to adjust play by play unlike college where that happens most of the time at half. You are being asked to think much quicker in the NFL. He is part of the Stoops tree. He is going to know defense. He coaches in one of the toughest leagues in the country.
Kentucky scoring defense was 39th. When you consider UK scoring offense was 119th that is quite impressive. You are putting a ton of pressure on the defense when your offense can’t score. Kentucky pass defense was 24th in the country. Now that is very impressive. That is up from 93rd the year before. So major improvement from one year to the next.
Why not Brad White? He makes 1.4 million at Kentucky. Is FSU really going to pay him close to 2 million per year and still owe Adam Fuller? He is coaching in the SEC with one of the top coaches on that side of the football. He is safe at Kentucky. Come to FSU and not turn it around and White could be out of a job next season. Not sure he checks the future head coach box.
Final Thoughts: White seems like someone you would really consider for the FSU coaching opening. He did recruit Tavion Wallace brother to Kentucky. Could he reunite with Tavion in FSU if White gets the job? The only reason I could see him leave Stoops is because Stoops has to make some moves since the team did not finish the season well. Sometimes it is best for coaches to move on. He may end up taking a pay cut at FSU. He has zero ties to Florida so you are asking your main coach on defense to start building relationships with coaches in Florida. Most coordinators like to bring at least one coach with them. Who has worked with tied to FSU or the southeast. I think he has some very good qualities. I like him much more than the coach at Nebraska. The big question is whose his agent and what is the tie to Mike Norvell. If he is not represented by Sexton and there is no direct tie to Mike, I would be a little surprised to see him at FSU. That being said I would not mind being wrong.
