Clocks change this weekend ("falling back" to what is often called "standard time"). Senator Marco Rubio has proposed legislation that -- if adopted -- will end the clock switching, and make Daylight Savings Time (i.e., "sun sets late in the day") the year-around convention. Prefereces here in the Locker Room?

Didn’t Florida already vote to end it?

I don’t mind the time change. Reminds me what season I am in in. Living in Seattle and Chicago in the last decade something about the earlier sunset I’ve grown accustomed to. Makes me appreciate that longer summer nights. An hour here, an hour there. But I guess everything from the past is under review.

Yes! Please.

It did. But apparently that simply leads to the need for federal approval. I tend to like the idea at some level but I’m not sure we need Florida on different time zone than the rest of the eastern seaboard half the year. I work mostly in Central time as it is since office is in Panama City. That causes enough confusion. Can’t imagine it if we did this alone.

Yeah Florida doesn't have much of a history for doing things differently anyway.

Wouldn’t it all balance out? I wish they’d just pick one and leave it. I like the extra hour in the summer but it seems to me that with the earth always moving on it’s axis day/night hours will balance out regardless.

What is the point of it anyway? Don't tell me it's the Farmers or to reduce electric costs.

The reason why it was created is farmers. The reason why it is still needed is nonexistent.

Considering I usually have to reset a some clocks a few times a year due to power outages, a couple more times makes no difference. It's not a complicated task.
I had to deal with different time zones every day at work so I don't really care. It's not a big deal.

Its not a big deal, but that doesn't rationalize why we should keep doing it.

Get rid of time changes and time zones.
I agree with time zones. They make sense to me but not DST.

Keep the same 12 hour clock but whatever time it's daylight in your area is when it's daylight.

Yes but it was rejected at the federal level because for half a year, Florida would be out of sync with the rest of the east coast.

I, personally prefer Standard Time. The sun should be rising earlier in the morning. If we go to Daylight Savings Time year round, there will be a rough patch in the winter in a lot of locations where kids will be going to school in the dark. That's unhealthy and unsafe.

And don't get me started with little kids bedtime in the summer.

"Mommy!! Why am I going to bed when the sun is still out??"

Time zones actually make sense when you look at it from a big picture. Do we need 4 in the US? Maybe not. We really don't need 2 time zones in one state either. Go to two time zones in the US eastern and western and do away with DST.

I freely admit my choice is purely for selfish reasons...I want whatever gives me the most daylight after work
i always enjoy the fact in florida that we have sunlight with DST until nearly 6pm even on the shortest day in late december. it would be dark AF before 4pm where i grew up in the UK!

on the flip side it wasn't going dark on the longest day in june until 10:30'ish pm.

I experienced the same in school in Anchorage.

Personally I like it. Darker earlier just makes it feel like it’s time to call it a day working.

I hate Daylight Savings Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get back to REAL TIME year around.

This is why it’s still done.

There is no reason to change the time nowadays. Get rid of it!

I suppose it's a symptom of aging but I like the earlier daytime during the winter since I wake up by 5 and my peak productivity is over by noon.

In the near term though the end of the 9pm basketball game next Wednesday will feel like midnight and leave me extra brain dead on Thursday.
