It seems fairly evident that the media assaults that plagued us in 2014 will return in 2015. This year's negative publicity could be toxic, as the recent buffoonery only enhances the radioactive "violence against women" narrative that began last year.

For starters, no one endorses or defends violence against women. If we have kids who have engaged in that, they need to be dismissed. Period. And I think that is FSU's position too, in confirmed cases. But that won't stop the media from twisting things out of context and portraying FSU in the absolute worst light possible. There is a track record for that. Which leads to the question: will FSU do anything to defend the media attacks this time? How many more unfair character assassinations can we endure?

Again, while not rationalizing or defending any improper conduct, our track record is actually better than those at many other institutions. FSU needs to affirmatively point that out. Why are we singled out for the negative media attention? Is FSU out in front of this? Or will we again cower in the corner and quietly endure more reputational drubbings? You know this will come up at the approaching ACC Media Event, and for the foreseeable future.....Jimbo, Wilcox, Thrasher and all of the others need to have a cohesive, rational and affirmative plan for addressing the issue. Even if we need to retain outside media consultants and experts, we must. This is too volatile of an issue to have another passive and amateurish reaction from FSU. Let's see if our "leaders" are ready.
