What do you think the players think about the confederate flag at future sporting events?

That was done years ago. They are Now the "Rebel Landsharks"! or something like that!

The rebel flag is probably the only thing I agree with get ride of.

Flag has been gone for years--soon 'Rebels' will be asked to change.

Tommy Tuberville asked the school to curtail use of the confederate flag because of the difficulty he was facing on the recruiting trail. The university president then enacted a rule that banned bringing in sticks to the stadium (the pom pom's they used were handed out inside the stadium) to deter people from bringing in the flag. I think you can still technically bring it in, just can't be on a flag pole/stick.

I covered probably two dozen games in Oxford and dabbled in The Grove...I can't recall seeing the flag inside the stadium and rarely saw 'em at tailgates.

Ah, but they can fly their state flag ...

Georgia did away with the "battle flag" part of their state flag several years ago, but Mississippi is still holding out. Their governor recently said that it was up to the people to decide if it should be changed and wants a referendum on it.

Whites still outnumber blacks in Mississippi and no one knows how a potential vote might go.

They only added the "battle flag" to their state flag in 1894 during the height of the "Lost Cause" movement and as a slap in the face to those who were for equal rights. It was done for very racist reasons and everyone can agree to on that fact.

It’s in the works to remove the confederate emblem from their flag.

Ole Miss no longer flies the state flag either. They’re moving a statue today (supposedly). But I expect rebels to be gone. The big question is will “Ole Miss” have to go.

Just happened per 4 letter network.
The sec says they should change. Both schools say they should change it. But the 10 people who control the state won't do it. The gov says it needs to be a statewide vote. Last time they did that MS voted to keep it. But that was 20 years ago.

The current Georgia flag remarkably resembles the first flag of the confederacy. Lets see if the SEC decides to move the SEC championship game from Atlanta.

Yep. They just flat out changed to the confederate flag that people don't recognize and added something to it.

Get rid of it. I'm sorry none of were alive back then and we are all pretty much genetically a melting pot. English, Irish, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian. We honestly don't know our heritage anymore. It's a flag that is now symbols racism. Its time we move on from the bad past of America. Its already bad enough we stole the land.

The flag that represents Treason to America ?

Not to mention it represents losers, or at least the concept of having lost.
Actually, NOT treason.
1) States legally seceded from Union. If secession was treason, then the birth of this country was treason as the colonies seceded from the British Crown.
2) Secession protected by the 10th Amendment and there is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits a state from leaving the Union.

3) The U.S Constitution and the Federal Government was created by the states, they elected to join the Union. As they had the power to join, they also had the power to leave.

4) The first two years of the Civil War was fought by the Union to force the southern states back into the Union. Lincoln specifically said this and the Emancipation Proclamation itself is also clear evidence as it was not issued until the end of 1862 to be effective the following year.

"The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.”--G.Orwell

Unfortunately, we as a nation have tried to simply a war that was very complex in origins. Our country has done a remarkable job of destroying its history. The ramifications of that will result in the destruction of the very reason this nation was created.

You’re using fuzzy math on this one.
We had no signed constitution when we “seceded” from Britain.
The Constitution does not directly mention secession. ... The Supreme Court has consistently interpreted the Constitution to be an "indestructible" union. There is no legal basis a state can point to for unilaterally seceding.

You assume that every white person in Mississippi will vote to keep it? No offense, but....
Do you see what you just did?

The ONLY State who has a different "right" as to leaving (not seceding, there is a difference) is the former Republic of Texas, an independent country. They also retained the right to separate into as many as five states.

I never learned this factoid nugget in any U.S. History class; high school, FSU, or my five year stretch in Sing Sing.

You attended class??
I never stated that I had attended class Watson. These were just cloudy periods from my shady past of yesteryear. No wonder I couldn't see much. ;)The Budweiser haze was also a crucial factor. I just keep running into things to this present day. But after sundown, its more like a bump in the night.
