Anyone watching the WWC. The U.S. plays tonight. So far, (besides the Germany game) it's been pretty interesting.

I slowly became a soccer fan in 2006- so I'm a relative newbie to the game. Now it's up there with football as my favorite sport. I was surprised to find out that the US has not won the women's WC since 1999.

That means all (assuming all) the current US players-- including Abby Wambach do not have a WC title.

The USWNT has had some devastating loses in world cup play-- including the China loss 4 years ago but also the 4-0 shackling against Brazil (was it?) in 2007 maybe? They need to win it this year <hopefully>!

I'll be watching! To me, the big question is how healthy Alex Morgan is. Her healthy presence makes it very difficult for opponents, even the best ones, to defend us.

Women's US soccer is number 2 for me behind FSU Football. Hoping Alex gets better quickly! ...sad to think, though, this is Wambach's last cup. :(

Gwinnett, Christie Rampone (Pearce at the time) was on the '99 squad. I don't think she was a starter, but she got her share of the Cup.

Women's soccer is your 2nd favorite sport? Why would you prefer women's to men's?

There's a lot of things I'll do for my country, but I'm not watching Women's Soccer until at least the semis

If it's women's World Cup soccer or baseball, I'll be watching the ladies.

I'm excited for tonight. It's definitely a different feeling to watch a world cup as a contender. What I would give for the men to some day be at that level.

Although it was just a friendly, the kids did very well against the Netherlands on Friday and have another friendly vs. Germany on Wednesday. There is a lot of young talent on the men's team that just needs more seasoning.

i like watching womens soccer at this level. sure, its slower than mens, and the athletes less talented. but that actually makes it more interesting in my view. you can see plays develop better. stategies and tactics have a bigger impact, rather than pure athleticism. its sort of like college basketball, compared to the NBA.

What a great game! Nigeria is absolutely a hoot to watch but also a waiting disaster. Good result for USA's hopes, too.

Lord there is something about Hope Solo... even with all baggage.

Good win for the U.S.

Us looked poor but found a next gear late.

Anyone else have to mute tony diccico? He is s brutal angry commentator

not all that impressed with Solo. The shot everyone was raving about was right at her. she had one decent save, nothing to get excited about.

USA couldn't string together 3 straight passes until the 2nd goal late in the match. We played downright horribly (including Rapinoe, her 2 goals notwithstanding, I think she gave the crowd more souvenirs than everyone else combined). At least they got 3points out of a poorly-played match, but play like that in the KO rounds against Germany or Norway, and we're toast.

You can really tell the skill level difference in some of these teams. As a former player and now coach, I notice a lot of 1v1 situations, as opposed to team play.

FSU gym bag at 22nd second as well. I think its there just to mess with Abby Wambach and motivate her a little.

There was also a cup in that shot, but you only noticed the old logo...

OK. So this is an international tournament, and we have the USWNT representing the US in said tournament. Those kits are bizarre and another example of Nike making absurd changes. They're green and white. We look more like Ireland than USA.

Messed with her enough where she missed that wide open header in the first half, all the ball had to do was hit her on the head but Wambach snapped the head just a tad too soon. The horrible commentator blamed the miss on rust, but she has headed thousands of balls to where that wasn't rust as much as a pretty sloppy miss/choke.
