Would we hire Pitino

It is just not the issues with the basketball team that makes it a head scratcher as to why the ACC brought in UL. They have had a whole host of academic and admin issues that just reeks of corruption and poor mgmt.

I know you asked TIC, but there is no way FSU would bring Pitino in. Not with all his baggage.

So is the question would we rather have current staff and have mediocre results or risky (guaranteed issues) with better results? I'd stick with mid-pack results and a ho hum coach. Unless its football, then win at all costs, mediocrity isn't acceptable.

Agreed although I am not in favor of winning at all costs even for football. A program is tarnished much more so IMO for having issues like what basketball programs are experiencing now.

They play fast and loose with the rules and they're a pretty poor academic institution so they're a better fit for the SEC, but there is no doubt swapping Louisville's overall athletic programs for Maryland was a win.

Plus who else was out there to replace Maryland other than Louisville? West Virginia? Too small of a footprint even though they're rabid fans and the academics are barely better than Louisville? UConn? Other than basketball they have a terrible athletic program. Cincinnati? No better than Louisville and likely to start a "war" we wouldn't win against the Big Ten. East Carolina? No need for another NC school. USF or UCF? No need for another FL school.

Now I do think we'll have better options later as I don't think the Big 12 is stable so we might be able to grab 1-4 schools from there. But at the time there was no better school to bring in than Louisville.

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson doesn't see Florida State's offensive line as a weakness

Is there a HC that tells the truth when asked questions about the other teams? It's usually how the other team is excellent in all three phases. I don't ever remember a Head Coach in college saying "you know, their left tackle is weak and has a slow first step so we are going to destroy him all game long".

There was also this.

Dabo Swinney: ‘Trust me, Florida State is as good as anybody out there’

Pardon me if I don't take the heaping of praise from an opposing coach very seriously.

He'll get a "consulting" job with Addidas (he knows where all the bodies are buried) and, if he doesn't fall into a bottle of scotch, he'll get rehired by northeastern west school of the blind once all this all dies down. Where he will proceed to sign blue chip requires and take the blind to the final four.

A la Jerry Tarkanian @ Fresno State at the end of his career.

And his program will be caught again, and an assistant coach will take the fall again, and he will claim that he didn't know anything again. And the blind will say: "Coach, you said you were innocent, that you had reformed, that you were going to do things the right way if you got another chance. How could you do this again" And Coach Pitino will reply, like the scorpion, "don't blame me, it is who I am, it is what I do."

"Come on people, you know a tiger can't change its stripes."

He'd make a great cadaver for aspiring morticians to practice on. The guy is ghoulish looking lately.

Ousted Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino is “Coach-2” as referred to in the criminal complaint released Tuesday by the Justice Department, according to several outlets, including CBS News, ABC News and the Wall Street Journal.

If true, that would put Pitino in the middle of the investigation as a known party to investigators. In public statements, Pitino has denied any knowledge of the activity described in the federal complaint.

Interim Louisville President Gregory Postel said Thursday that the university has been given enough information to determine who “Coach-1” and “Coach-2” are, but could not name them citing the ongoing federal investigation.

He will spend the next year playing golf at Indian Creek Country Club in Miami while sycophants like Dick Vitale spend the year trying to wash the stink away and in 2018 CBS or ESPN will hire him for TV.

Unless Rick Barnes craps the bed at Tennessee and Pitino's best pal, a UT benefactor with building named after his family, can get him that job.

Considering Nike is the next one hitting the news it may not be the time to fan the flames. IMO it's foolish to think that Adidas was giving 100-150k per recruit and Nike was offering nothing.
