I'm a huge Queensryche fan and I believe that Geoff ran the band into shambles the from 94-2013, but I have to admit that this track of Geoffs new album is quite good. Ironically, it sounds similar to something that would have been on the 1988 Operation Mindcrime album. Undoubtedly, Geoff has been listening to the criticism from the original QR fans. Geoffs album is released in September and Queensryches will be in October.

If we only had a LR poster who had some more insight into this. Never forget.

Rychenole was a long time, everyday poster here who knew everything there was to the band, even knew them or something. He left after a thread about babysitting back fired on him a few years ago and then posters started a memorial post with the date and Never Forget. I don't remember the whole story or if that's why he really left, but he was your man for all things about the band.

Queensrÿche is one of the few bands that gets decent airplay on Sirius's Hair Nation and Ozzie's Boneyard. Most of the 80's bands end up exclusively on Hair Nation, but a few bands like Crüe, GNR, QR, Scorpions, Skid Row, Tesla, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot and a few others get rotations on both stations, and that tells me that QR is considered more than just an 80's Hair band by Sirius.

I was never a big fan of QR, Ratt and Tesla, but the more I have listened to them 20+ years later on Sirius, the more I have enjoyed them, especially Tesla.

I think that most of the 80's lyrics consisted of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, and what made QR stand apart, was that lyrically, IMO, they were above most of the other bands from that era, as they dove into topics such as politics and underground movements and shied away from the stereotypical 80's exclusive sex, drugs and RnR.. Operation Mindcrime and Empire, looking back, are two underrated albums (underrated to me, because at the time, I never really had a use for them, but they are/were great albums and probably deserved more attention from me over the years). I can remember seeing Queensrÿche patches on jean jackets as early as the mid 80's, and there were usually Iron Maiden, Ozzy, W.A.S.P. and Judas Priest patches on the same jacket.

I still think Operation: Mindcrime should be made into a movie; a la The Wall.

Wasn't this made into a Broadway/off Broadway musical production a few years back? I probably wouldn't pay to go see a QR musical, but I would definitely watch it on TV!

The main reason that Mötley Crüe is calling it quits, even though they can still pull 20,000 a show, is that they don't want 1, 2 or 3 members calling themselves Mötley Crüe after a member or two splits, ala QR, and is a shadow of themselves. Not many bands survived that era, and as of a few years back, QR and Tesla would instantly sellout the 2,200 seat Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. Recently Tom Kiefer and Faster Pussycat just barely sold out a local 400 person capacity nightclub here in Manchester.

I have seen just about every band that had some sort of success in the 80's and into the 90's, but QR was one that I was never able to see, and that was probably because I really didn't like them at the time, heck, if they were to open for Crue, I probably would have stayed in the parking lot, drank and listened to the show, much like I did when Tesla opened for Crüe in 1990, I believe. Today, I think that Modern Day Cowboy is probably in my top 15 songs of all-time.

Tesla is a great band, Manch. Their first album is excellent. Virtually no fillers. A bunch of other really good songs here or there on other releases. One of the tightest live bands I've ever seen.

As for O:M, this is better than the crap he has put out over the last 20 years, but still not as good as QR's last release. His voice is shot and he also looks like a muppet now. Not sure about their tour numbers, but Todd/QR look to be getting pretty decent numbers showing up again, now that they aren't playing crappy songs from American Solider and whatever mediocre work Geoff hoisted upon them.

I saw QR back on the Rage for Order tour, and they were great. I saw them again at a sold out Radio City in 2000 or so, and Geoff's voice was not the same, and they compensated by playing waaay too loud.

Yeah, we went to shows together in Nawlins and Biloxi a few years back and he got me back stage passes(when Tate was still the singer) He is kin to Michael Wilton. If I need to know something going on with the band, I either call him or get him on FB. Good guy.

Les, not being a smartass, but how is this thread killing you? Sometimes I'm not that good at internet translation.

This is better than the FU Tate album from last year, but the Todd Latorre QR blows this out of the water. Its not even close.

there was someone who was good for a 'never forget' post for like the first two years after ryche almost killed those kids. can't remember who but those threads always cracked me up. anyone remember what day we're not suppose d to forget? i forgot.

Wait, he almost killed some kids?

And yeah, he was kinda....

Wasn't he the self proclaimed Star Wars scholar of the board also?

No, he didn't almost kill some kids. And as for star wars, he did know more than anyone else I've ever known. It's personally a bit weird that you guys still bring something up from several years ago when he doesn't even post here anymore.

His negligence COULD have killed some kids. That's definitely a fact.

And let's not pretend people are just sitting around talking about him. Literally no one brings him up - ever - unless the very obscure and specific topic of Queensryche, comes up.
