Gene Deckerhoff is here with head coach Mike Norvell. Quotes coming

Norvell on Miami rivalry: Said one of the greatest rivalry game in all of sports. Always remembers watching it as a kid. Always focus on this game during offseason. Huge for program, huge for fanbase, everybody involved.

Norvell said not coaching last year in the Miami game (COVID) was terrible.

Senior day as well: Norvell said they’ve been through a lot, seen change, seen development. Then guys that have only been here for a year, Still that same investment to build a foundation of who they are as program. Want to send them out the right way.

Happy birthday and rest in peace Coach Bobby Bowden. Deckerhoff reminds us that today would have been Coach’s 92nd birthday.

Norvell on Travis: “As we got closer to the game, we didn’t get the progress that was needed. There was no chance that he was going to be able to go out there and be able to play.”

Said having guys out in practice was a challenge but also a learning opportunity for the guys who were available.

Norvell said they didn’t start the way they wanted offensively, hard to develop consistency, halftime made adjustments, said he thought Milton did a great job in the second half, pushing the ball downfield.

Norvell on importance of home field advantage in rivalry games: Huge. No shortage of emotion. To have that atmosphere in front of fans brings the electricity to the game.

On Keir Thomas: So excited about his continued growth. Showed great effort and physicality. Normally when a lineman wins an award it’s a compliment to the guys around him as well. Seen positive steps from the defensive front. Keir is playing at a very high level…Also mentioned the DTs Lovett, Cooper, Ray, Jackson.

Said P Alex Mastromanno did an extraordinary job against NCSU. K Parker Grothaus did a great job on the onside kick. It changed the entire momentum of the game.

Pleased with the offensive line. Made adjustments to the things they hadn’t worked on a ton during the week. But guys applied it on the field in the second half.

On WR Keyshawn Helton: A great effort play on the TD catch. His route was on the opposite side of the field. He didn’t let up on play.

Norvell said their efficiency in the red zone offensively has really improved.

Guys did a great job of playing disciplined, staying focused. Only 2 penalties against NCSU.

Said they need to apply all the lessons they’ve learned the first 9 weeks in the Miami game. They need to be at their best.

Norvell congratulating the FSU Soccer team: An incredible team and such a joy to watch and cheer on. #1 FSU, of course, beat UVA for the ACC title over the weekend.

Said TE Jordan Wilson is playing an incredibly high level and is coming off his best two games as a Seminole. Thomsen does a wonderful job with TEs.
