was watching a match with my son, who is 12, and was trying to impress upon him the importance of stoppage time.

i recall watching a match - USMNT v. Germany, iirc, where we were winning at the 90th minute but gave up 3 goals in stoppage time to lose. It stuck in my mind because i was watching with some German colleagues, so this would have been 96-2002 time period, probably 98-2000.

does anyone remember that match?

i can't seem to find any mention of it on the net. i had thought it was a WC match, but since i can't find it must have been a friendly or qualifier.

any way to see the stat sheet for that match?

They lost 4-3 in a friendly 6/2/13; not sure if that's what you're thinking, though, as that doesn't fit the time period.

no, that's not it.

is there any sort of database of all the games against a particular opponent?

The US lost to Germany in 2002, 4-2. Here is a history of the games between the USA and Germany.

Here is a report on the game, Germany scored 3 goals in an eight minute span in the 2nd half, not injury time, though. Kind of funny, that Clint Mathis, who has a classic German name scored both goals for the US!
