Soccer FSU set to host Georgia in top-20 matchup

FSU sports information:

The No. 1 Florida State soccer team (3-0-0) hosts its first ranked match of the season against No. 16 Georgia (1-1-1) on Thursday evening. The Seminoles currently hold a program record 26 game unbeaten streak and have not conceded a goal in the past five regular season non-conference games.

FSU will host Georgia for the first time since 2004. The Seminoles have defeated the Bulldogs in their last three meetings, including a 3-1 victory in Athens last time the two sides met.

The Seminoles continue to extend and break program records on their impressive run dating back to last season’s national championship. Florida State has scored in 37 straight games, holds a 26-game unbeaten streak and possesses an 18-game winning streak, all of which are program bests. FSU also holds an 18-game home winning streak dating back to 2022, one shy of the second-longest streak set back in 2015.

The reigning national champions have remained perfect through the first two weeks of the season and recorded a strong 3-0 victory over Rice this past week. Ashlyn Puerta opened the scoring with a long-range effort that launched into the top right corner before Wrianna Hudson and Lara Dantas each scored to put the game to rest.

The Seminoles have scored 18 goals through the first three games which equals the team’s most since 2009 and have yet to concede through the first three games for the third time in five seasons. FSU has conceded just one goal since last season’s ACC Championship victory with eight shutouts.

All six freshmen outfield players have recorded a point through the opening portion of the season and five players have registered a goal. Dantas and Puerta lead the group with two goals each while Hudson has provided two assists along with her first career goal.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. and general admission is free. All students attending will be eligible for a free koozie upon entry. The 7 p.m. game will be available to stream on ACC Network Extra.

Football FSU offense struggling to find any footing in the post-Jordan Travis era

FSU snapped a streak of 19 quarters without a passing touchdown last night. And yet, somehow FSU may miss Jordan Travis even more for what he brought to the running game.

Overall, the FSU offense is missing Travis more than anyone could have imagined.

Conversation while we wait on the 24th to get here

The Sideline guys did a great job with this one, how about the board?

You are Mike Norvell, we are the receiving team vs GT and after a decent return we are to begin our first drive of the 2024 season at the 36 yard line. . . What is the first play you call?

So many options available, and obviously you want to have some success on your first drive, so a low percentage down field heave would probably not be the smartest. . .although it would be unexpected.

I think the entire world expects us to run the ball on the first play, for good reason. Even with GT expecting us to run, it would still be nice to see how we fare against them, even with them keying on the run. An understandable play call.

My take. . .play action pass to Morlock. With so much expectation on running the ball, faking a handoff to him and throwing a nice safe pass to Morlock for 10 yards or so could do a lot for getting DJU involved, and building some confidence if it is successful.

Thoughts?

3rd down TO

So after too many Guinness (our concession stand ran out at halftime) I thought it was 4th down on the bad snap. So initially I agreed with the TO. Seeing as it was 3rd down, CMN should have made GT burn that TO. If they didn’t, go to OT. If they did, you had another TO to stop it on 4th.

Not that it would have made a huge difference but I would have liked a chance to try to tie or had time to get in FG range with a miss.
