FSU recently added Fentrell Cypress (UVA) and Gilber Edmond (South Carolina). Cypress will be FSU best defensive back Day 1. Edmond will provide another quality body at defensive end. He may not start but Edmond should be able to spell either McClendon or Verse at the end spots.

QB
1-Jordan Travis - (SR)
2-Tate Rodemaker (JR)
3-AJ Duffy (RFR)
4-Brock Glenn (FR)

Comments: Jordan coming back makes a big difference. He solidifies the position. If he does not come back the odds are many of the other players who had decisions to make most likely take off as well. He gives FSU a chance to compete and win the ACC next year. The interesting battle this spring is between Rodemaker and Duffy. The one that loses the 2nd string battle could enter the portal. I don't expect Rodemaker, Duff and Glenn to all be back in 2024.

RB
5-Trey Benson-(JR)
6-Lawrance Toafili (JR)
7-Joshua Burrell (SO) (Possible Transfer)
8-Rodney Hill (RFR)
9-Sam Singleton (FR)

Walk On- Caziah Holmes (JR) not on ship at this moment. / CJ Campbell -(FR) Not on scholarship at this time.

Comments:
Ward has transferred to Kansas State. Benson now takes over as the featured back. Toafili gives you some versatility and a nice third down back. I think the reason the coaches were willing to let Ward go was how well Hill performed in limited game action and how he did in practice. Hill is going to be the next man up. Singleton will probably RS.

WR (Updated-1/19/2023)

10-Mycah Pittman (SR) (Injured-Hip) 3/18/2023

11-Winston Wright (SR)
12-Johnny Wilson (RJR)
13-Kentron Poitier (JR)
14-Deuce Spann (JR)
15-Darion Williamson (JR)
16-Hykeem Williams (FR)
17-Vandrevius Jacobs (FR)
18-Ja'khi Douglas (JR)
19-Goldie Lawrence (FR)

Comments: As we first reported McClain has transferred from FSU and landed at Penn State. FSU has two players who will be seniors in 23 (Pittman/Wright). Wilson will be a RJR but we expect him to leave as well after this upcoming season. Ja'Khi Douglas is one to keep an eye on. He was not really recruited by this staff and probably feels that he could start somewhere else. FSU is going to need wide receivers in the 2024 class. They have a good one committed in Camden Frier.

TE
20-Jaheim Bell (JR) (Played as a freshman - Listed as a jr for 2023 Season)
21-Markeston Douglas (JR)
22-Jackson West (SO)
23-Kyle Morlock (SO)
24-Bryan Courtney (RFR)
25-Jerrale Powers (RFR)

Comments: Bell will be one of the starting tight ends. When FSU goes to 12, I expect Douglas to be part of the mix. My top two guys to start to the season are Bell and Douglas. Douglas played well in spurts this year and impressed me in their bowl game. Bell creates too many miss-matches for FSU. I expect Morlock to be a backup and provide some depth behind the top two. If FSU goes jumbo or three tight end sets, he will be the one called on.

OL
26-Bless Harris (OT) (SR)
27-Casey Roddick (C) (SR)
28-Jeremiah Byers (OG) (SR)
29-Keiondre Jones (OG) (SR)
30-Darius Washington (OT/OG) (JR)
31-Zane Herring (OG) (JR) (Possible Transfer)
32-Thomas Shrader (OG) (JR) (Med?)
33-Maurice Smith (C) (JR)
34-Robert Scott (OT) (JR)
35-Bryson Estes (C) (SO)
36-Julian Armella (OT) (RFR)
37-Kanaya Charlton (OG) (RFR)
38-Jaylan Early (OT) (RFR))
39-Daughtry Richardson (OT) (RFR)
40-Qae'shon Sapp (OT)(RFR)
41-Andre Otto (OT) (FR)
42-Lucas Simmons (OT) (FR)

Comments: With Demetrius Mitchell announcing he was coming back this week FSU has 19 returning lineman for 2023.
Right now you have Robert Scott (Tackle), Bless Harris (Tackle), Jeremiah Byers (OG), Demetrius Mitchell (OG), Maurice Smith (C). 2nd team Unit (Center-Casey Roddick), (Guard-Keiondre Jones), (Tackle-Darius Washington), (Tackle-Julian Armella). Look for Shrader and one of the other lineman already listed to possibly take the other guard spot.

DE
43-Jared Verse (JR)

44-Patrick Payton (JR)
45-Gilber Edmond (SO) (Transfer from South Carolina)
46-Byron Turner (RSO) (Transfer)
47-Jaden Jones (SO)

48-Aaron Hester (RFR)
49-Lamont Green (FR)

Comments: Verse coming back for another season was like FSU landing a five star recruit this past cycle. Getting a 1st round draft choice back at defensive end is not common in college football. Verse now allows you to see single teams from the other end spot. McClendon and Edmond will likely be the starters at the other end spot. Look for Payton to be the first one off the bench. He needs to also get his body in better conditioning. Turner is looking like the odd man out. He could transfer after spring ball.

DT
50-Dennis Briggs (SR) (Possible Transfer)
51-Fabien Lovett (SR)
52-Braden Fiske (JR)

53-Darrell Jackson (JR)
54-Malcom Ray (JR) (Possible Transfer)
55-Daniel Lyons (RFR)
56-Joshua Farmer (RFR)
57-Ayobami Tifase (RFR)
58-Bishop Thomas (RFR)
59-Antavious Woody (RFR)
60-Keith Sampson (FR)

Comments: Briggs coming back along with Lovett was huge. Briggs needs to stay healthy in 2023. Fiske and Jackson provide experienced depth. Keep an eye on Malcolm Ray, he is good enough to start at another D1 program. He has been productive but not many kids like him want to be backups their entire career. Tifase almost got the transfer itch. It is very important that FSU keeps that kid happy as he is the top young lineman on the roster. You can't afford to lose another one of your top players in the class of 2022. (Updated - 1/19/2023)

LB
61-Tatume Bethune (SR)
62-KaLen Deloach (SR)
63-Brendan Gant (SR) (Possible Transfer)
64-DJ Lundy (JR)
65-Stephen Dix (JR) (Med?)
66-Omar Graham (RFR)
67-Blake Nichelson (FR)
68-DeMarco Ward (FR)

Comments: Bethune coming back stabilizes this position. Deloach is another solid option. After that FSU struggles to find option number 3. Lundy has played but can be a liability. Dix comes off an ACL injury. It would not shock us to see him over on after spring ball. Graham and Nichelson are going to get minutes this season. These two must develop and do so quickly. It would not shock us to see FSU try and hit the portal for another body or two. (Updated -1/19/2023)

S
69-Akeem Dent (Sr)
70-Travis Jay (JR)
71-Shyheim Brown (SO)
72-Kenton Kirkland (FR)
73-Conrad Hussey (FR)
74-Quindarrius Jones (FR)

Comments: The safety spot with the loss of Robinson is a big? mark right now. Dent was almost out the door. Who knows what happens with Jay. Brown has experience and had some success but also struggled at times. FSU could move a CB here. The safety spot is a weakness on the team right now. (Updated 1/19/2023)

CB
75-Jarrian Jones (SR)
76-Renardo Green (SR)
77-Greedy Vance (SR)
78-Fentrell Cypress (SR)
79-Omarion Cooper (JR)
80-Kevin Knowles (JR)
81-AZ Thomas (SO)
82-Jabril Rawls (FR)
83-Edwin Joseph (FR)

Comments: Fentrell was the most important addition through the transfer portal. We expect him to start day one. Renardo Green has solidified his spot as the clear cut #2. Who takes the slot corner spot? (Omarion Cooper). If Green gets moved to safety, look for AZ Thomas to man the spot opposite Fentrell. Thomas needs to start or get major minutes or he could be looking somewhere else. Knowles fell off last year. He should have a bounce back year in 23.
