We talked to Link Jarrett this morning before the FSU baseball team travels up to Virginia Tech for a three-game series which begins Friday at 6 p.m. A full story is coming later with what I thought were some interesting thoughts, but for now, I'll pass on a few injury updates.
- -- Link shared an update that I expected to hear on Evan Chrest. I asked him to clarify what he meant about the "decision to make" Chrest has to make with regard to his recovery and he said that whatever decision the midweek starter makes, he'll be out for the rest of the season. That's the expectation I was working under but good to hear him confirm it in as many words.
- Sounds like Blayden Plain and Connor Hults are not especially close to returning. Jarrett said that Hults is at "halftime" of his recovery. Safe to wonder if what he's dealing with was causing his early-season control issues that kept him from finding the form he finished the 2024 season in. Overall, he said that FSU is up to nine players on the injury list.
- He's hopeful that Jaxson West's absence after hurting himself on a swing in Saturday's loss to Wake Forest is not a lengthy one. Still gathering more info on how long he could be out.
- The one bit of good news is that Jarrett confirmed again on Thursday that he expects Chase Williams back in the lineup this weekend. He seems to think Williams' insane speed could be a boost and a potential gamechanger for the offense. He's only played in six games and had 19 at-bats this season due to a few different injuries.
