Got a question for y'all -- our dentist just told us he would no longer be accepting our dental insurance (I had it when I worked at FSU and now have it privately since I retired, think it's Assurant). So, we might need to switch dentists. Question 1: anybody got a dentist they could recommend? Question 2: anybody got dental insurance they could recommend? THANKS in advance, and, go 'Noles!

Did the office say they would not accept your insurance or that you are not in network?

Being retired, Assurant may be the best you will find. Ameritas also has a decent individual plan. Why will he not accept it? If reimbursements are too low, you need a new dentist. If he doesn't like the company and doesn't want to deal with them, ask him to continue giving you network discounts and file the claim on your own. It's not a difficult process.
In all honesty, the value in most dental insurance is networks and discounts. Otherwise, most plans are capped at $1000-1500 per year.

Dr. Susan Byrne. Best dentist I have ever had. I have recommended her to at least a dozen people and all are very happy with her. She is a UF alum but so good that she is the only gator I'd ever suggest for anything

It's one thing to haphazardly/unknowingly give your money to a business that happens to be owned by gates. It's unfortunate, but there's no shame in that.

There is however no need to EVER patronize a uf (and it's lowercase - ALWAYS) alum's business if you have the choice...and in this case, you do.

I normally agree, but the vast majority of dentists in this state are from that school in hogtown.

ATL Metro has gate dentists too. I had to switch dentists last year and she had good reviews. But the clincher for me is she is close enough to my house that I can get there in my golf cart.
