Ira distills some of the major themes to come out of Day 1 from Amelia Island

------

Just spoke with Willie Taggart. Touched on a variety of subjects.

He said the transfer portal is a big subject of the ACC coaches. Said the concern is that kids are entering it assuming they will get a bunch of scholarship offers, but some kids are getting left out in the cold. They’ve given up their current scholarship and don’t get a new one — at least from schools they want. Said that’s definitely something that needs to be looked at.

On Xavier Peters leaving, he didn’t speak much specifically other than to say he’s confident that they’re still going to be fine at the position.

Said the players are doing great with offseason workouts ... said the kids are asking for more to do than the staff can actually give them to do by rule.

No news on Jordan Travis’ waiver request. But he said the graduate transfers have already arrived on campus — QB Alex Hornibrook and OL Ryan Roberts. Freshman DL Quashon Fuller also has arrived. Said other freshmen will come in as they graduate.

More coming ...

We’re here at Amelia Island for the annual ACC spring meetings.

Just spoke with AD David Coburn and talked about a variety of topics. Will have a full story coming, but here are some notes:

* Said the discussions about restructuring the relationship between the athletics department and Seminole Boosters is continuing. Said the final decision could be coming soon, and it sounds like there will indeed be restructing. Said those talks with the boosters are going very well. “I think we’re going to get there ... in the near future.”

* On the “interim” tag leaving his title, Coburn said it was more to ease the concerns of the coaches and staff, who wanted some stability there. Also President Thrasher was ready to make the move.

* Talked about the new ACC Network and scheduling. Said the message from the league and TV consultants has been, “If we want this thing to work, we have to be willing to cooperate.” Meaning there will be some different game times, etc, for the benefit of the league.

* Said gambling is a big topic of the meetings ... they’re looking at how much information is released before and during games to avoid any problems.

* On the baseball search, he said they’ve had very good interest for the job and is confident they will make a good hire. Said President Thrasher is too.

More coming ....
