Another “Top 50 American craft beers” list

Nice to see Funky Buddha get some love. Unfortunately can’t get them here in Pittsburgh, so I have to do some Smokey and the Bandit type of running to get my supply. :)

You can't have a list of quintessential US craft beers without including OG Sam Adams.

I'd say this list loses some street cred by including Victory's lager (bleh); Devil's Backbone (almost nothing they make is good); and King Sue (good, but not in Toppling Goliath's top three).

I’m a fan of Funky Buddha as well, definitely the best beer in Florida you can easily get ahold of.

I know I suck at craft beers, but I really like Devil's Backbone's Vienna Lager.

I also like Victory's Summer Love.

One of my friends goes to New England for work quite often. He brings back a lot of Trillium and Tree House beers. Those are both solid breweries.
My buddy loves Trillium Cutting Tiles. Says its his favorite IPA around.

I don't think I have had anything from Trillium. Either I glanced over it or we couldn't get it in CO. Is it available in Florida?

Ive had most on that list, wide array of ratings for me.

I just hit Wicked Weed last week and was disappointed, my guess is they’re cheapening the ingress already after the takeover, like Elysian and Breckenridge.

Toppling anything Sue I haven’t been a fan of, also Bells is meh to me.

Devils backbone is bad.

Hill Farmstead still the goliath imho. Probably heading there this weekend.

Allagash White is still sensational but I agree Sam Adams Boston was important 15 years ago but doesn’t hold up anymore.

Trillium is a frequent trip of mine and make great stuff. I think they’re better than Tree House but both are fairly one dimensional with DIPA and DDH. Trillium is trying more sours and they are promising.

I like Grimm, underrated, Carton is too in that area of NJ.

Suarez is pretty good

Alchemist makes better beers than Focal or Heady.

I don’t get 3 Floyds at all.

Excited to visit Russian River next month though I don’t love Pliny The Elder.

Cheers

3 Floyds is amazing in that every year they put out Dark Lord and every year its awful and every year people clamor for it.

Gumball Head is probably the best beer they make and there’s nothing special about it.

I just had a Girl Grey by the Bruery tonight and was blown away. Really was an exceptional beer...and unfortunately I only had one bottle. Now the hunt for more begins.

I’ve had several others from them, but they are often too sour or too boozy for me (they seem to like making sours and bourbon barrel aged, and go over the top with each). This was certainly different.

No, can't get it in Florida. To my knowledge its only available in Mass. I've been lucky enough to get Trillium and Tree House because my buddy mules it back here. I trade beers frequently with friends and that's how I've been able to get stuff like Wicked Weed, Creature Comforts, Jester King and Burial. None are available here with the exception of a few limited varieties of Jester King.

I'm able to get my hands on a lot of special releases from Cycle Brewing in St Pete so I typically use those for trade. People lose their $hit for BA Stouts and I'm not that into the style. I used to get just about anything out of Texas I wanted if I sent sixers of Jai Alai but that's starting to show up in Texas stores.

There are several beers out there that people go nuts for every year and they're not all that great. Bourbon County and Hopslam are 2 that I don't get.

Dark Lord is on another level though. Huge hype, big brewery-only release day, perennial disappointment.

The only 3 Floyds ive enjoyed is Barrel Aged Behemoth 17, not cheap. Every time I see another highly scored 3 Floyds i think, man there is really nothing to do in Munster IN.

Another DB Vienna Lager fan, I'm nearby in Cville. Wild Wolf, down the road from DB makes a good Belgium Blonde called Blonde Hunny which is popular around here. Also a fan of Alagash White.
