Going Saturday for 6 days. Staying at an all inclusive resort in Ocho Rios. Have a few ideas (all water sports, spa and some golf) but any other ideas are welcome.

Had Falmouth as a port of call on a cruise a few years ago. Crazy history there, had never known about. Apparently the town Usain Bolt is from.

I played hookey for a week during my freshman year at FSU and stayed at the plantation where they shot the "island" scenes in Live and Let Die, outside of Montego Bay. The trip was both good and bad, but the scenery was spectacular.

Been many times. Where you are staying, I would definitely recommend going to Dunns River Falls. It's a lot of fun and will only take up your morning as it's close by. If you want another off-site trip that's very close, the zip lining and bobsled at Mystic Mountain are fun as well.

Definitely going to Dunns. We're staying at a Couples Resort called Tower Isle.

been to Jamaica 3x. Stayed at the Couples San Souci 2x (one of the James Bond movies was filmed there). That side of the island is beautiful. Couples does a great job of taking care of you. People are friendly. definitely go to the straw market and make sure you barter. We have some really nice paintings from there. Eat Beef patties and drink red stripe and dirty bananas (rum drinks). Also do a sunset sailboat trip.

This is the good advice!

Our resort had a guy that would push a cart around the beach each afternoon serving up jerk chicken. People were lined up like he was giving away cash.

Went to the Ocho Rios Sandals for our honeymoon in 1990...definitely do the Dunns River Falls...bring cash to tip the guide who will take pics on your way up.

Did Couples Negril for our honeymoon, those are all good recommendations.

We did night snorkeling with the bioluminescence in the bay, which is fun.

Couples resorts are a good time.

Went in college spring break trip the first time and it was like a bad 80s movie. I will say the Falls are neat. But the rest I could do without. Beer was always warm. Food was elementary school lunchroom bad. Hotel security tried to sell me coke and then got offended when I said no. Prostitutes around clubs were scary. Overall leaving the resort was a bad idea.

But I did get talked back into an upscale resort and it was much nicer, like something from a Sean Connery Bond movie. But the non-resort was still crazy bad. Wont go back personally. Good luck!

When I went in fall '81, EVERY single Jamaican I met wanted to sell me ganja, except for the hotel staff. I suppose a lot of that was because I was a teenager, but still, it was annoying. And dangerous, though I did not realize it at the time..

Spent my honeymoon there in 2009. We had a great time. In fact, we went to other Couples resorts every year through 2016 for our anniversary. If you are debating on whether or not to visit the island, don't wait until your last day. Go day one.

I know that it you fly into Montego Bay, it's well worth the $$$ to get the Club MoBay VIP deal. It looks like there's also one for the Kingston airport. Saves you a ton of time and hassle - like a "skip the line" pass at Disney - and gets you into a lounge where there's food and drinks.

The Club Mobay is especially good for departures. You have to be at the airport so early there is lots of time to kill. Rather than wander around the airport and overspend on food/drinks, relax in the lounge with all that included.

We went to Couples Negril six times. Loved every minute and actually made some lifelong friends.

My take on most of the Caribbean, including Jamaica: Just be aware that you are going into what is essentially third-world territory. The resorts can be great, but the surrounding areas are often blighted and poverty-stricken. Crime is real, just in case you are one of those self-directed exploring types. So you can have a great time at your resort, but just be aware that the overall area is VERY different than what you see on the commercials and slick promotional materials. Enjoy!!!!

Things have changed a tad bit since the 80's and the all inclusive resorts are very nice and accommodating.

This can be true with central Florida and most of GA, AL, and Miss but yes, all of the Caribbean is poor. Tourism is their main economy, so they try to excel at that.

I used to go about once a quarter for work. Resorts are great, the rest of the islands towns and Kingston are cesspools.

Their weed isn't even that Dank compared to the US Indo that they are producing for the marijuana industry nowadays.

Wait - the resorts are nice but the locals live in poverty. That’s a screaming hot take.

And a place that has hookers, weed and blow and LR dwellers found it annoying. This place has changed, man.

Oh I am sure...I stayed at a mofo of a resort, but as soon as I left it I was solidly in the 3rd world, as others have said. There is probably more disparity now than there was then. My trip pre-dated the rise of all-inclusive resorts.

Went twice. Went to Sandals resorts two times. I loved the first time and hated the 2nd( probably because I was young and liked watered down beer then). The resorts were not that nice.

I stayed at Sandals in Ocho Rios for my anniversary 12 years ago. The resort was nice, not so much in that area once you stop off the resort other than Dunn's River Falls if I recall. Also, it's a long ride from the main airport, so be prepared for that.

I don't plan on leaving the resort outside of Dunns Falls, Golf and maybe one of the bigger shopping markets so not real worried of going off the beaten path. Thanks for all the info everyone! Looks like we picked a great spot and looking forward to posting up, getting lit and playing some golf.

This is true, but the Couples shuttle is great and they will make a beverage stop along the way if the riders want to. Also, even though the Couples shuttle is included with your vacation, please tip the driver. They are contracted, not employees of Couples. We always gave him $10-20 each way.

Check the cruise ship schedule before going and hit the falls when no ships there. My wife and I were the only 2 climbing the falls when we went with our guide. There was another guy with a brush scrubbing the rocks if he counts. We just took a cab and got a guide when we got there.

The cruise schedule is good advice, but, when we went, our group was a long "conga line" and it was a blast. As for a cab, there is no need for that staying at Couples. The shuttle will take you and pick you up for free.
