What are you pulling it with?Thinking of getting a little pull behind camper to take family for long weekend excursions in north Georgia.
Anyone have campers, any advice?
All about weight for what you're towing with. Make sure you're taking into account the fully loaded weight.

What year is your 4 Runner?
Found this:2015. It’s not 4x4 but has the larger V6 engine with tow package. Not sure the specs at his point though.
Meh, we tow our large pop-up with our FJ with no issues and we have resr mountains out here. There thing has 3 slide outs and can sleep 7 or so. King bed on one side, queen on the other and the slide out is a little smaller. Heater has kept us warm below freezing so long as you bring sleeping bags or blankets.
You might think about trading it in for a used 1/2 ton crew cab pickup.2015. It’s not 4x4 but has the larger V6 engine with tow package. Not sure the specs at his point though.
Make sure you dump your chemical toilet in the sewer when its full.
I do.
Advice / thoughts
My folks love Vogel State Park.
- buy used or hunt for a smoking deal on last year models
- always have more truck than camper, esp if you want to go to the mountains
- Don't forget about the hundreds of lbs in the truck and the gear you load into the camper when you do you math on how "big" of a camper
- Longer camper needs heavier truck. Large sides act like a sail in crosswinds
- consider kids sleeping arrangements changing over the next couple of years. We started with a popup, then the 2 kids made it a PITA. Cold nights and they grew, space became REAL tight in a popup with 2 adults, 2 dogs, 2 kids. Loved the popup but we went larger for comfort
- Many places have restrictions on length, consider that before you buy if you have favorite places to go
- try n guess what kind of camping you want. Off grid, always have connections (electrical/water) and get a camper that supports that. If camping with no connections, consider how you will power your trips. Genie, solar, batteries, connections. That might drive some features on the camper
- How far north and season do you think you will do? Cold weather (and really hot) can be miserable in a softside. Esp cold weather with little kids.
- Really consider if you want a camper with a toilet or are willing to do get a moveable loo (some do, some don't have them). Many popups have a shower curtain as privacy, it doesn't really offer any and its not very pleasant for anyone else in the camper. They take up a lot of space if space is limited. Two years in my popup, we never used the crapper, always had vault toilets or other options.
As a boat owner I can agree with this. We use our boat all the time and is part of our life. It would make no sense to have something like that and not use it.I've always put campers in a category with boats and cabins. Unless you make it a priority and a lifestyle, it's one of those things that you have but rarely seem to find the time to use.
Nice comments, except for Vogel.. Too small and cramped for me.
I do love Wolf Pen Gap that comes our right beside it though. Vroom Vroom!!

You're retired, though, right? We've put 16,000 miles on our motorhome since we bought it (used) 3 years ago. Did a 2 1/2 month trip in it last May/June/July.
