lol...I know man...just a lil bit. i know the guy who owns it. He may give me a better deal. What you have there is more of what I thinking.

You might think about trading it in for a used 1/2 ton crew cab pickup.

I wouldn't mind trading in for something like that.

Would really like a Jeep Wrangler though, but not sure it would pull much more than the 4runner.

I've always put campers in a category with boats and cabins. Unless you make it a priority and a lifestyle, it's one of those things that you have but rarely seem to find the time to use.

Agreed, one has to make it a priority / part of your life, otherwise it just sits.

I am a school teacher that's and hour from the Gulf Coast beaches. Having a cheap $4k pull behind is a no brainer. I can stay for two weeks at a state park, on the water, for $25 a night, run the AC nonstop, and have hot showers.

I prefer my tents though.

Have you / can you tent camp without designated camping structure (showers /etc)? The disbursed camping is great out here (never looked at it in the SE). Most National Forest Land is wide open. I save a lot of money throughout the year by NOT paying the $25. Showers may be your biggest issue, but Ive gone swimming in many a lake on the side of the road for motorcycle weekends.

What I speaking of is family camping On Mc trips I wear jeans until they can walk on their own.

We almost bought a pop up when the kids were little, but having to pay to store it some place ended up being the deal breaker at the time. Probably for the best, as the kids get a certain age, and there aren't any more free weekends.

Have some fantasies about a motor home now though, with it just the wife and I soon. I like the idea of just getting away for a weekend. I don't really want to tow anything though. I like to drive, but have never driven one of those deals and am not sure how comfortable I'd be.

Nice, we haven't taken the canoe. I've been meaning to put a rack on the pop-up but haven't. This year will have to figure out how to get the boy's mountain bike on..assuming that we want to risk bringing it. Freaking thieves.

I am a campaholic.

I use RV rarely, Big Agnes Flying Diamond 8 Tent often with the fam (Queen Bed will fit and bulletproof. Used as Everest dining halls), and I use an REI Halfdome tent off the motorcycle.

North Ga? Try Blackrock mountain lot 15. It's first come first serve as sites go. The only problem with RVs is mountain camping. Many roads on good mountains will only work with short RVs.

Just noticed you said “bullet proof”

Is that correct, it can stop a bullet?

We have a class A and love it. And in my opinion it's the only way to go. It's definately part of our lives as a matter of fact we lived in ours with the kids, two cats and a dog for a year and half while we built our house. We go everywhere in it when we can. Mainly centered around vacations and kids sporting events and occasional "pack up and leave long weekends". When we built the house I put in a electrical post and dump hole that ties into our sewer system. When we get home I can dump the tanks, power up and be ready for the next outing.

Yes you can finance up too 30 out. But as far as financing on an old unit there is a cut off of when a bank will not finance. It's a cash deal then, sorry can't remember the cutoff. Agree on the BUY USED let someone else take the cap hit! :)

Whatever you decide to do enjoy! And I'll leave you with this: an older full-timer we met down in HHI gave me some great words of wisdom about RV'ing "It's not the size of your unit but it's the fact your doing it."

I'm retiring in December. My wife and I are buying a 30-32' Class C. Can't wait to hit the road!

NICE! Seems like a long time away for me. My folks did the same when they both retired. You have your first retirement journey planned? Whats on the stop list?

I like those (hard side with bed slides). They really make the camper seem larger. Even a popup with a dinnete slide is a big gain in space.

Jayco is a known brand, produce a lot of campers. Couple Reviews on the Feather. NADA and rvtrader show that as a pretty good price, certainly since it is basically brand new. It should have a Jayco or campingworld warranty for a year or two. Always check the seals on roof and see if water damage exists or could, definitely in the SE, its not a worry for me here. They should know its history but I'd bet it was returned for 1 of 2, 1) decided to go bigger 2) too much camper for their tow vehicle.

I would see if they will let you put it on your truck and tow it down the street to see if you have enough truck. You should, but step 1 is loading for a trip. Step two is driving the trip and if its a struggle to get there, it stresses you out and starts off on a bad foot. I was underpowered for my old race truck/trailer and decided never again. This may seem like overkill, but I love wt distribution bars, make towing much more stable. They might sell you some discounted. I towed my popup with a surburban, did fine. Tossed on bars and it was night and day.

How much additional weight should be added for your weekend goods (food, chairs, etc)

Don't expect good service from Camping World if something needs fixing after you buy it.
Nice set up if that is what you are looking for.

I bought much older for much cheaper, although I am a broke arse teacher.

That's almost our floor plan except ours is a pop-up and we opted for no bathroom. Our side slide out I'd the dining area ehiwh really opens up the unit. Price is good for that model year, but I'd still haggle. Sway bars are probably good advice.

Dan, re the weight. Thats all on you. Do you want to camp with your cast iron cookware or buy some cheaper (and lighter stuff)? Don't fall into the trap of "we have storage space, so lets bring it". That will sneak weight in. We review what we have all the time and get rid of stuff. My weight before after doesn't apply for you because of scale, but I think you should expect to be 4-500 lbs heavier than the dry weight of the camper. ?
Fill your fresh water tank (20 gal? = 140 lbs). Bedding for 3 beds, food (staples and fridge) and/or cooler, clothing, tools, kitchenware, etc. All the stuff that goes with having a little kid. Put weight on your axles or in the truck.

Once all loaded, a lot of truck stops have Cat Scales and for $10 you can get your rig weighed to make sure your tow vehicle and trailer are under their max weights. I this for that and to see what tire pressures I need.

Because of the serious mountains that we climb out here with ours I never fill our water tanks until we get to where we're going. No reason to pull that weight up the hills. I dump it as I leave.

Fingers crossed they have water! Lots of people do that though.

Dan, tip..... ALWAYS check the water hose or bring your own. I have seen people take that water hose BelemNole is talking about and stick it in their toilet or up the camper dump tubes to flush stuff out. Always bring gloves, wipes, clorox and sanitizer. They say don't do it, but someone eventually will / does. Or they just toss it on the ground where standing water and other fluids collect.

And bring your own water hose.

Yeah, I've got my own. And I don't usually fill up at the dump/fill station but from a spigot in the campground as I can maneuver my pop-up close enough to get the hose to just about anywhere.

So the one that works for us (size and price) is only 500lbs less than my trucks tow capacity.

The trailer is 4500lbs, by 4Runner can do 5000lbs.

Too close?

Probably. It will limit what you can pack and it will do damage to your 4runner. Do you know if you have the full tow package on the 4 runner? Bigger alternator, engine and transmission oil cooler in addition to the larger battery/alternator, hitch and 7 pin wiring...

Yea, you need to look at your 4Runner's max vehicle weight. That includes the trailer's tongue weight.

So the “tow expert” said I need about 1500lbs cushion to have a safe ride. If that’s truly the case I’d have to get something like I posted above....which turns out to not being a good fit.

We need sliding walls. With my 7 month old and 3 year old, they need the extra space.

Will have to trade in 4Runner for a F150, or will have to wait for the kids to get a little older so that we don’t need the extra floor space.

Going to check out RVrental.com in the mean time. This might actually be the better choice. Was thinking we could load a trailer like Phin and then have the camper delivered....kind of makes sense.

1500 cushion is excessive. You just need the right equipment on the vehicle. I certainly don't have that type of cushion on mine and I sometimes forget it's back there.

We had a 27' th, just traded it in for a 32' class C, it's nice to be able to just climb in and go. We plan on towing one of our jeep behind it.

I agree, 1500 seems excessive. Unless they are figuring on weight of people and heavy packing. Either way your cushion of 400-500 seems too close.
