A silver-medal performance in the 100 butterfly by freshman Michel Arkhangelskiy, along with two top-eight podium finishes on springboard highlighted day three for the No. 18/25 Florida State swimming and diving team at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on Thursday night.

With a school-record time, Arkhangelskiy earned his second silver medal of the five-day conference championships, and he was one of two Seminoles with a record time on Thursday. Graduate student Samantha Vear and redshirt junior Kayleigh Clark both finished on the podium in the 3-meter event.

School records for Arkhangelskiy, which he set twice, and fellow freshman Mathias Christensen were three of six top-10 times in school history for the Seminoles on Thursday.

”This was a really amazing day,” FSU coach Neal Studd said. “School records, best times and two divers in the A final. It was a great day to be a Seminole. I just love watching these young people have fun and support each other, it’s awesome.”

Arkhangelskiy earned a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly, breaking his own school record set in the morning prelims with a finals time of 44.30. He shaved more than 1.5 seconds off his personal best coming into the meet, and the freshman’s performance earned him his first individual NCAA A cut. Arkhangelskiy’s final time of 44.30 bested his prelim mark of 44.71.

The freshman reached the podium for the third time in three days, after winning silver in the 200 medley relay and finishing fifth in the 200 freestyle relay, both on Tuesday.

Vear and Clark earned finals berths on 3-meter. Vear finished sixth with a score of 306.70 and Clark was right behind her in seventh with 306.60 points. It marks the first time Florida State has had two divers compete in the same women’s springboard final at the ACC Championship since 2020. Vear’s podium finish is her second of the meet, as she began the week in sixth place on 1-meter on Tuesday.

Christensen earned his record-book time in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:44.30 to shatter the previous program best set in 2020. The freshman’s record-breaking swim included a drop of more than three seconds off his seed time and a personal best in the 100 butterfly with a 49.97.

Fifth-year Jenny Halden finished 16th with a 52.58 in the 100 butterfly, followed by senior Edith Jernstedt with a 52.28 to put her in 20th. Freshman Logan Robinson also was 20th in the 100 butterfly, as he improved on his prelims swim with a finals time of 45.96.

Senior Yordan Yanchev closed out the night with an 18th-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:33.57.

With two days remaining, the FSU men are eighth overall with 305.5 points and the women are ninth with 232 points.

Florida State is back at the pool on Friday, February 21 to compete in the prelims of the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke at 9:30 a.m. ET, and men’s platform at noon. Friday’s finals session, starting at 5:30 p.m., will include the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, men’s platform and 100 breaststroke. The meet will conclude on Saturday, February 22.

All prelims and finals sessions will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, while live results are available for swimming and diving. Additional information about the ACC Championships, including the complete schedule, can be found at TheACC.com.

On Tuesday’s first day, FSU set two school records and notched four top-eight podium finishes. The men’s 200 medley relay claimed silver and fifth-place showings were earned by senior Samantha Vear and the men’s 800 freestyle relay. The women’s 200 medley relay joined them on the podium with a sixth-place finish and several divers joined Vear in earning points for the Seminoles.

On Wednesday, Florida State earned two top-eight podium finishes and posted five top-10 performances in school history, three of them in individual events. The men’s 200 freestyle relay was fifth and junior Sam Bork placed sixth in the 50 freestyle.
