I'm going to be in Atlanta this weekend. The weather looks pretty good for Friday - I'd like to find an outdoor bar where we can sit out and have some drinks - preferably while looking at something pleasant. I know that Canoe has outdoor seating facing the river, but that's a little too fancy for what we're looking to do. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Ladybird in the Old Fourth Ward. It has a beer garden that overlooks the Beltline. If it's nice day, there will be plenty of activity.

Requisite Atlanta question: where are you staying?

Ladybird will be a zoo. Had dinner at Rathbun's Steak on the patio last Saturday. Good lord, so many people packed into a small space.

Rather than start a new Atlanta thread, what is the best way to get to the new Braves stadium? Everything I have read says to take Uber. Have any of you tried to drive and park nearby?

Parking is a breeze in any of the lots. You have to buy a ticket ahead of time for the lots on Ticketmaster and they are in private parking lots of businesses. The commute and traffic have been much improved over Turner Field.

We're staying near the airport, but we've got a car and access to Uber. I'm familiar with how far apart everything is, and that's not a concern - we know we're not going to be near much.

We're not looking for anything trendy or overly crowded - just somewhere relaxed that we can sit out and day-drink.

So yeah, thing to do now in Atlanta now is the Beltine. I'd get an Uber to Krog Street Market and walk up the Beltline trying out different places. If it's during the day Friday, Ladybird won't be too crowded. Some other options:

Krog Street - Get a beer from Hop City, and pick up a sandwich from Richard's
LadyBird - Get a Tropicalia and saddle up to the bar overlooking the Beltine
Victory Sandwich Bar - Have a Jack & Coke slushie and continue north
New Realm Brewing - new brewery by Stone's ex-master brewer right on the Beltline with an outdoor bar
9 Mile Station - Roof of PCM, has putt-putt, some games, a great view and a neat experience. If you aren't into walking, I'd just come straight here and day-drink on the roof. edit: looks like they don't open until 3 on Fridays, so depends on when you want to start drinking

Good luck.

This is great - thank you!!

It has talent, but it is certainly not laid-back.
Ahh, yeah we're looking for cargo shorts and polos, not full Vineyard Vines (or whatever the kids are wearing these days!)

Edited to add: The background intro video indicates that this place is pretty fancy - like silk shirt and leased BMW and bragging about makin' big deals kind of fancy. We're too old for all that.

Read that the citizens of Cobb insisted on a expansive mas-transit system to bring the people to their fair county.

What is the little side street just a half block off Peachtree that is loaded with nice restaurants? I believe one is called Lure. It starts at the block King & Spalding is on.

Front Page News is the only "bar" on that stretch of Crescent with a true outdoor area and is currently closed. Lure, Tin Lizzy's, South City, don't really have patios for drinking. Fado has a small area, but eh. If you want to drink in Midtown during the day, the only answer is Cypress (which is down a little ways on Crescent). If you want to drink in Midtown at night, the only answer is Proof & Provision.

The city will be packed this weekend. Looks like the weather's going to start getting crappy on Sunday.

Where'd you end up? Nice day for sitting outside, although it was much cooler this morning than I thought it was going to be for my 9 holes at Candler...

It looks like the Sweetwater 420 Fest is going in this weekend. That looks likeit might be fun. Probably crazy crowded though.

Ah, I was going to recommend going to Sweetwater as it has some nice outside tables but if there’s an event going on it will be packed.

We ended up going to Little 5 Points. We hung out at the Vortex, then moved to the Corner Tavern. We drank many beers, and had a good evening. Tomorrow we'll head down towards the baseball stadium and see what's around there. Not sure about Sunday yet: depends on the weather.

Russ, did you eat one of the massive burgers they serve at the Vortex?

I didn't bother offering a suggestion since I'm basically a shut-in these days, but my first thought was Brewhouse Cafe in L5P. They have a huge patio right across from where you ended up going. But it looks like Corner Tavern completed a nice renovation recently, so you picked a good spot.

I had a burger, but not one of those where there's grilled cheeses in place of buns. I'm too old to take on that kind of health risk. I think the single has 3500 calories, and the quadruple has 9700.

I thought you were kidding until looking this up. My family would move to another table away from me if I ordered one of these.

Today was great. Did the aquarium, then the college football hall of fame. Then this random Olympic torch, then the Varsity, then TopGolf, then an Irish bar that wasn't at all Irish. Then Waffle House.
