BEST cover ever?

That’s definitely one that came to mind, but there are other covers which not only better the original but are amazing, classic songs.

Tainted Love by Soft Cell is an 80s anthem and I even love the Marilyn Manson version, the Soft Cell version is a cover of a subpar original.

Gloria Jones original

I think the Gloria Jones version is perfectly serviceable. Good song. To me, that's a great example of a perfect cover...it's a song that's really good done two totally different ways. Not a fan of covers that pretty much just cruise on the quality of the original, like that band in the 1990s that covered Mrs. Robinson. Hell, a song like that is so damn good, an eight year old could bang it out on a trash can lid and have a B+ result.

Anyway, here's another 80s song that I think few people realize was a cover...this was a huge 1960s Britpop single. The original never made much chart headway in the US, so I think most Americans considered it to be an original.

Of course, in true 1960s fashion, almost nothing is an "original", as it was a Burt Bacharach song first recorded by Dionne Warwick, and actually charted by another artist before Sandie Shaw.
