Big Screen TV Question

LG OLED, your sourcing is important though. If you are going to watch SDR 95% of the time, the Visio is probably sufficient, but if you have access to a streaming service that offers 4k (FuboTV) then you'll want the OLED. There really is no comparison between a Visio and one of the best televisions ever made.

4k sports is the real deal, the NLCS was broadcast in 4k last year via FuboTV stream and DTVNow had 1080p on FS1. I can tell the different from 12' between 1080i, 1080p and 4k on my LG OLEDe65 Additionally Dolby Vision along with Atmos is quite the immersive experience.

That's a function of the TV upscaling 1080 to 4k, which isn't going to look as good as native 4k. Some TVs upscale better than others, and Sony is generally considered to have the best. I know that I can tell 4K vs 1080 content on my Vizio (which has mediocre upscaling), while on my Sony I just replaced, it was extremely hard to tell the difference in good 1080p content from 10 feet.

If you were looking on a native 1080p screen like a good plasma, then you wouldn't be able to see the difference in resolution from that distance. At least based on every single scientific look at the question.

Irrelevant though, because the resolution, especially at that distance, is nothing compared to everything else that goes into a good picture quality. And further irrelevant in that you can no longer buy a decent 1080p big TV anyway.

Only an issue I guess if you're talking people out of unnecessary replacements, and trying to get people not to trade in a $3000 Panasonic plasma for a $700 no-name beater "cause 4K bro."

But to go to OLED like you did, no doubt.

That said, there are some interesting possibilities for 8K, in the realm of things like virtual reality where your eyes are right up against the screen, and especially 4K x 4K 3D, although I don't know if anyone's going to go down the 3D path again anytime soon.

Eventually we won’t have a “tv set” per se. We’ll just wallpaper one or more walls in display “paper” and that will be it. Some small Echo dot like thing or smaller on a table will control the wallpaper.
