A fifth-place finish in the men’s 200 freestyle relay and a sixth-place showing in the 50 freestyle by junior Sam Bork for the No. 18/25 Florida State swimming and diving team kept momentum going at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday night.

The Seminoles’ second day of competition at the Greensboro Aquatic Center saw them earn two top-eight podium finishes. FSU posted five top-ten performances in school history, three of them in individual events.

“It was another great day with some awesome performances,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “I am excited that the women’s team got another relay to NCAA’s and the men got another A cut relay. We had a lot of fun and I can’t wait to keep things rolling.”

Bork’s sixth-place finish in the 50 freestyle came in 19.06, more than 0.10 seconds faster than his prelims swim in the morning. His final performance earned him the second-fastest 50 freestyle time in FSU history, only .02 seconds off the school record set in 2014.

The men’s 200 freestyle relay finished fifth with the third-fastest time in FSU history, thanks to freshman Michel Arkhangelskiy, senior Jokubas Keblys, Bork and junior Max Wilson. Arkhangelskiy’s personal best leadoff time of 19.45 guided the Seminoles to a finish of 1:15.86 to clinch their third NCAA A relay cut of the meet.

The women had a strong showing as well, also putting up the third-fastest time in FSU history in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.76. Led by freshman Maryn McDade, graduate student Jenny Halden and seniors Edith Jernstedt and Gloria Muzito, the squad finished 11th overall and earned a new NCAA B qualifying time in the event.

Several other Seminoles also contributed points on Day 2. Fifth-year Yordan Yanchev was 14th overall in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:17.71.

Fifth-year Mason Herbet led the way in the men’s 200 individual medley with a time of 1:44.16 and a 14th-place finish. He was followed by freshmen Mathias Christensen in 20th and Logan Robinson in 24th. Christensen shaved almost 0.20 seconds off his prelims time, notching a 1:43.91 and the fifth-fastest time in FSU history, while Robinson finished in 1:46.43.

Jernstedt and senior Maddy Huggins also earned 22nd- and 23rd-place finishes in the women’s 200 individual medley. Jernstedt touched the wall in 1:58.25 and Huggins posted a 1:59.35.

Junior John Bessire was another point scorer for the Noles on the 1-meter with a score of 294.15 that put him in 14th place.

After two days of the five-day meet, the FSU men are sixth overall with256.5 points and the women are ninth with 162 points.

Florida State will return to the pool on Thursday, February 20 to compete in the prelims of the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle at 9:30 a.m. ET, and women’s 3-meter at 11:45 a.m. Thursday’s finals session, starting at 5:30 p.m., will include the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and women’s 1-meter.
